Honda S2000

Had one for 6 months (silverstone/red). Can't fault it - build, handling, engine (ohhh... engine). Awesome.
If you're getting an MY00ish for your 19k, check the oil injector recall has been done (if not Honda will do it). Plus, if it roars a bit on the over-run around 3-3.5k, get the clutch plate replaced. Honda will do it if you "complain" - it's not a problem that actually affects anything.
Plus the usual, check the hood, seals etc.

I have owned many great cars EVO VI, Scooby, Boxster S and S2000 included. I was a badge snob and had always wanted a Porsche so I bought a Boxster S that with extras cost well over £40k. I didnt even entertain looking at the S2000. after 6 months wait for the Boxster S it did not live up to my expectations and i sold it after 4 months because it did not excite me. I then bought an S2000 and it is just a supereb car that gives the driver great thrills. Forget the money side of things the S2000 is just simply a better car that gives you more thrills as a driver. It is more exclusive and people who see it on the road or in car parks just love it. Everytime I park it and return to the car there is always a crowd of people around it just looking at it and commenting how good it looks. It gets attention for the right reasons and not many cars get that!

Just like to add that I totally pissed on a S2000 in a 200SX S13, going through Hatfield tunnel, the guy in the S2000 looked well gutted! Don't say that Porsche's don't win events, mmmmmm 959 Paris Rally Dakar?
Do have to say I like S2000's though, especially the one In "The Fast and the Furious"!

About the S2000 vs CTR race that was on DRIVEN (or is that DRIVEL ?) last year. Jason Plato was in the CTR and some other racing dude in the S2000. I can't recall it being a very dry track although it wasn't raining at the time of the race. The guy in the S2000 seemed to be complaining alot about oversteer, BUT alot of the honda boys over on S2ki.com and the Type-R forums think the race was kind of fixed cos the CTR comes round on the last corner and wins!
I have to admit it damn well looked like a fix to me, when the CTR came round on the last corner virtually sideways to win. I don't think a CTR can really keep up with an S2000 easily, although it does depend alot on driver ability and being in the right gear at the right time. I have test driven both cars (back to back) and the S2000 keeps pulling right through its gear range where as the Civic Type-R has a reluctance to at {cough} higher speeds!
I think they are both cracking cars, in fact I have a Black S2000 being delivered 1st March 2003! Roll on the summer!

Oh ffs. They're both good cars. They have different characters. They have similar performance.
If anyone's interested in a 2-seat cabrio, drive both and make your mind up. This sort of "nah nah, nah nah nah" crap is mindless.

Herr "image doktor" WROTE:
>> OMFG Selective memory or what!!!
I give up - Porsches are crap, Honda's are the best because some old duffer who rides a goldwings says so. <<
Appears you've had your image severely doctored - and why give up so easily? ...... Selective ... certainly Stanley but .... very accurate!
Who said they were crap? .... Oh, you did ... shame on you because they're not! What they are is P R O B A B L Y the most over-rated cars in the history of the universe ..... and worse than that, "Tiffany Dell" likes 'em. Get real!
FYI: I've never ridden a Gold Wing .... no desire to. They're designed for the yankee market and thus do NOT appeal to most Brit riders who have different values. My machine does have the Gold Wing LOGO of the Motorcycle division of the Honda Motor Company = like all REAL Honda's do ...
I will not mention the other inaccuracies in your response except not so much of the "old duffer" please. Are you so very young, simply immature and/or easily influenced with limited direct experience of things automotive? Maybe I've got you all wrong and you do have a mind of your own and use it.
Age is a state of mind ... some are aged in their 20s. Consider this ... I'm one of the many who have frequently cruised on UK roads at mph-three figures perfectly legally .... how about you?
Any road up, thanks for an amusing response .... made me
Enjoy your "does my bum look big in this" porkah!

Yes, I too was astounded at that CTR v S2000 TV "race" result. IIRC, it was in the dry too! I don't think it was fixed though .... I think it was simply down to Plato's excellent pedal pushing and steering wheel twiddling. That CTR's attitude through the final bends was something to behold ... great stuff ...

Just dived over to the MGF site and chanced upon this S2000 thread:

Road and Track tested both these cars (S2000 and Boxster S) and got surprising results
Price as tested $32,477
Engine type 2.0-liter dohc 16V inline-4
Horsepower 240 bhp @ 8300 rpm
Torque 153 lb-ft @ 7500 rpm
Transmission 6-speed manual
Tires Bridgestone Potenza S-02; 205/55R-16 89W f, 225/50R-16 92W r
0–60 mph 4.9 sec
Braking 60–0 134 ft
Lap time 2 minutes, 17.66 sec
Slalom 65.9 mph
Skidpad 0.90g
Porsche Boxster S
Price as tested $54,303
Engine type 3.2-liter dohc 24V F-6
Horsepower 250 bhp @ 6250 rpm
Torque 225 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm
Transmission 6-speed manual
Tires Bridgestone S-02; 225/40ZR-18 f, 265/35ZR-18 r
0–60 mph 5.6 sec
Braking 60–0 125 ft
Lap time 2 minutes, 17.46 sec
Slalom 65.6 mph
Skidpad 0.93g
They got an amazing 0-60 time for the S2000, and despite the Porsche having more grip 0.93g to 0.90g, the S2000 was only .2s slower on the track. In practical terms of outright performance both these cars are very close, putting the amazing amount of grip these cars have into perspective, a standard wrx only gripped to 0.84g on the skidpan test, with an evo 7 managing 0.92g and a 996 turbo 0.94g.
The S2000 offers loads of car for the money and they look great in light blue. If money were no object the Porsche has amazing steering loads of feel, good throttle response and great chassis feed back you can change the whole attitude of the car mid corner with just a bit of movement of the throttle, I did test drive an early S2000 and it was pretty good but didn't come that close in terms of feel (did like the engine noise) the only car I have driven with more feel and reponse than the porsche was a Lotus Elise 111s which almost has too much feed back, but has glorious steering.
I think the s2000 is a good car and an excellent buy, but if you can live with a slightly more impractical car why not try a lotus elise as an alternative.
