I been meaning to put alot of the stuff I have downloaded/created and investigated onto an 'Open Source' site.... this looks like it will be just the ticket.

Perhaps we should start another thread, so as not to keep hitting this one

Me too please (I couldn't find the group thru yahoo search, my yahoo id is tonymy01 if you wish to invite that way)?
I am just about to build the laptop to OBD ckt for an Aussie MY01 (already built it for my Nokia 6110 a couple of years ago, a bit of hacking to make it work into the OBD-2 connector)...
But can't seem to find any info on the addressing of the parameters for MY01/02/03 Select Monitor (is it the same as earlier?)
Can do a tiny bit of visual basic programming too (but not sure yet whether the VB comm port library will allow the odd baud rate of the OBD/SM interface?)

Excellent, that's what mine is for too - though playing DVDs will be on the cards soon. Plus, if I get it right, ECU monitor.

I can get my hands on VFDs rather than LCDs for character display, which are SO much better for use in car. You can actually read the things...

Graphic display (ie lcd panel) is coming soon.

Nick, it'll be good to have you on board, I would like to discuss the LCD/VFD/COG issues with you further as I am already experimenting with these.

LCD/VFD/COG/WTF?
I am so glad you guys know what you are talking about.

I started to examine my ECU. Then I got a new girlfriend, and all that got shelved! Keep up the good work guys! I need it for January if possible!

Me and Katana have to go surprise a certain P1 at Santa Pod.

not been back to the DIY ECU thread lately, but shame if Paul is with drawing the information gathered so-far
maybe he's got his reasons?!?

[edit - now read the thread & no idea why he's edited them - but at least he's not going comersual !!! ]

thanks for the invite Andrew. still not managed to get on line at a place that I can do anything about the group.. so will do asap!

would be nice to get an display in the car and laptop/PC running it. could really do with it fitted nicely like that thread in ICE /INTEROIR (cant remember!) the other week .. that was sweet !

main thing I think we need now is KNOCK. once that's sorted it will be a useful tool to monitor / tune with.

And Andrew can add it to his SSM (Subaru Standalone Monitor(tm) ) so we can all have knock detection as well as all the other benefits of the SSM !!

Steve

They're only 7 euros but which one....16 way 24 way etc... or are these completely the wrong ones. Thanks to Paul (Gecko M) for the link.

Paul (PAVLOS) did find the actual 'Yellow' 9-way connector on the Tyco website complete with part numbers for crimps.

But for the life of me, I can't find it.

Ok found a Uk Source for a PCB mount select connector only £1.68 +vat

Downside they only deal to trade & minimum order £50.

Bull5h1ted a free sample - just to check its suitable for the large order I'm about to place

If it is suitable I'll let you know - but £50 is a lot of connectors

Turbo_Steve,

Interesting site - for those of you that can't translate - try babel fish.

Scott,

Interesting cicuit diagram : http://homepage1.nifty.com/BG5A59D/romtune/dataread_circuit.html

Babelfished the site. He talked about a baud rate of 4800 and ASCII. This confused me a bit.

The circuit is similar to what I already use, with some diodes kicking around.

4800 is apparenty the baud rate for sending control characters using ascii codes (2bytes per character).

I never got this to work, but didn't try very hard as binary mode works fine, and I just set the baud rate to 1953bps.

As for finding knock, I can't seem to get it, I've been hitting the block with a hammer and all sorts, but of the 2 binary info bytes, none seem to have any bits that are affected, so perhaps there is a third byte somewhere.

My plan, before I got sick of it all last month was to write something that would go through each byte and listen for a few seconds while I either wiggled a sensor, or fed a sine-wave to the ecu. As soon as you see a sine wave come up on the graph, you're there, stop the log and move to the next sensor.

Ultimately, I think the easiest way is to sit down with a pc and genuine select monitor, logging the serial port activity with the RS232-TTL adaptor plugged in parallel with the select monitor.

I will be having another go at the above now I have had a chance to test the stuff I had done up till now, and have a better idea of what I want to be able to do with it.

Any idea where we can get a real select monitor from? Seems like the easiest option.

As for the Ascii mode, I haven't had any luck either.
