Would you have a spec of Guys car at all? I need to go through all the specs received and make sure they are as accurate as possible.

I'm away for the weekend, but I taking the Civic with me (over 40mpg - magic LOL!!).

Guy's car seems to be pretty well standard as far as we can see. We reckon it has an uprated clutch by the feel of the pedal. The front disks are grooved, and it is very "pokey". The handling is very good with very little understeer so I think it might have had the bumpsteer mod.

Cool - my car is on display for 'The Garage' at Knockhill this Sunday. Quite happy about this Its a themed japanese event by Fast Car. I'll stick it in for the show and shine, but I reckon its not a cotton wool car, then chances of anything are slim - but hey, a chance to clean the car thoroughly (again)!! LOL!!

I've just bought a 1994 WRX STi from Japan without really knowing what it was !!!

Had a look of Marky-san's website and everything seems to match up and I've also sent the pics by e-mail to Marky-san too to see if he can confirm my suspicions !!!

No 145/200 Silver saloon (Ame from NZ) and 179/200 black saloon (JVS car now sold to a trader) have been located - pictures of both.

Two ltd ed STI are coming into JVS (www.powervehicles.co.uk) in the next 2 weeks, have pictures but not of plaque unfortunately. Both saloons, one red and one silver.

Two other folks just waiting on their cars arriving in blighty.

No 135/200 was stolen from Chieftains driveway - thieves broke in and stole the keys whilst he was asleep!!!

Will add info as I received it from now on.

All in all, its been a good haul of cars for the last 4-6 weeks.

PS Noticed on one mail of Exess that his parts came from a guy who had a ltd ed, but it was written off - so I'll add this info as well. Number unknown.

Thats excellent mate - make sure you do a spec sheet for the windows as your has grown arms and legs since you got it.

Actually forgot to mention - had my drive belt for the alternator and power steering go in a stange fashion - there are 4 strips on the belt. One strip had almost disappeared by an inch or so, the backing stands which provide the belt strength/tension was being unwound like someone unravelling a wooly jumper. It went round the other flywheels and make quite a mess - but not nearly as much as me going round the corner and discovering the lack of power steering assistance!!!

Trip to Halfords (yes I know!!), £5.89 later I had a belt - but I'll get a proper one, but atleast they've got one in stock for emergencies

Bad news folks, my engine is on its last legs (i.e. not to be driven at all!!!). AA guy said he thought the small ends were away (no idea what he means), but I do know its an engine out job and sizeable wallet mugging.

My car has done less than 54K - AA guy said its purely wear and tear, and likely the car has not had an easy 54K (like most other scoobs I suppose?.

So wont be enjoying the good weather and posing in my car for the foreseeable.

I down and pretty pi$$ed off, to put it mildly

Fookin hell mate, sorry to hear that especially with such low mileage. TBH I'd be a bit suspicious of proper servicing/correct oils etc cos it's not the kind of thing you expect to fail if it's been well looked after

FWIW small ends are the bearings between rods and pistons (i.e. the opposite of big ends which are where the rods connect to the crank). I've never heard of an Impreza failing with these though, big-end failure is much more common (and often blamed on either det or the oil breaking down).

Keep us updated and hopefully you get things sorted without too much expense. Is the guy 100% sure of his diagnosis though, seems like the kinda thing you'd really need to get the heads off to check?

Really sorry to hear about that Marky. I doubt it is the little ends, unusual for those to go. Maybe it is something not so serious after all. Certainly a low mileage for problems like that. Let us know what you eventually find out, hope it is something easy to fix. Big ends would sound a lot different to little ends rattling unless it was very early stage of failure. Best not to drive it as you say until you know.

Thanks Leslie - I suppose this is the opporunity to do the oil leak, clutch, decat down pipes and think about upgrading the internals of the engine.

First though I have a holiday to pay for, then I'll concentrate on the car. Might have to sell my poor wee Civic to part fund this extravaganza LOL!!

At the end of the day its only mechanical and can be fixed if you throw enough money at it.

Don't worry though - the register etc. will still be ongoing with same level of drive to find the rest of these little gems!!

Alright Paul me ole mucker - its a disappointment for sure. I'm real keen to know the root cause of the failure. Probably right about the servicing - unfortunately jap imports tend to have that 'unknown' element of their history/owners etc. but hey, pays yer money takes yer chances.

I'm just contemplating the next step now.

Mine is still going great, although I've gotta be honest I do get bouts of paranoia regarding the engine when I hear of stories like this, especially from people so close to home (first Alex then you, although his seems to have been caused by det possibly due to I/C heat soak).

If mine were to go bang it would be off the road for a loooong time, hence why I'm trying to be reasonably careful. My ECU is mapped for 97RON though so no worries about octane boosters etc which I'm not 100% convinced of the uniform effectiveness. Simply don't have the cash to undertake major work right now (can hardly afford to put petrol in FFS!) but as soon as I've got a few spare quid a knocklink will be going in as I've already fitted the sensor to the block.

Keep in touch and hopefully you'll get it all sorted with as little dent to the wallet (and pride!) as poss. Big BHP rebuild sounds good though

Alright Paul - the upsetting thing is I usually drive like a nice guy (with small surges of overtaking no long haul high boost, ripping the backside off the car type driving - I enjoy the pose factor more than anything else. I still havent had the car 4K and its away.

cant afford it myself mate, but I believe one of my kidneys might be up for auction in the couple of months.

Glad your car is running well - funny thing was about knocklink etc. that fellow owner Leslie had sent me a really good detailed mail of all I need to get, what they all do for the protection of the engine. Dems de breaks!!

I think I'm more annoyed at all the events I'll miss in the next 3 months (car is likely to be off road for a considerable time - was even thinking till next year!! ).

Dont drive with the paranoia factor - cause otherwise it'll waste the experience. Just enjoy the cruising

Damn these jap cars and their breaking down!
Mine needs a new clutch as it's slipping like a biatch. Just changed the oil to Mobil 1 Motorsport and it is running smoother than ever. Just got the other fluids to change now...no where did i put that credit card?

Ah unlucky mate. The clutch is just one of those things -I'll be changing mine during the rebuild, then I dont need to do it all again. I think just the normal UK clutch works fine with the car.

Looks like I'll be heading to AWD for the work - no one else wants to touch it for some reason. Probably cause its one of those jobs that takes up time and space, as opposed to the 'in and out in a day' jobs that most people get.

Holiday to look forward to first, then the car can get the work done.

Have you had any further attempts by anyone at a diagnosis of the reason for the noise Marky?

I was told that the UK clutch wont last very long compared with an AP or Helix. Big difference in price though!

Hi Leslie,

I have my regular mechanic for all the cars coming to look at the car tonight or tomorrow. Its too clonky to be something simple unfortunately.

Exess has fitted the UK clutch, so I'm going to do the same. It should be fine considering my 4K per year max mileage. I dont rip the car too often either.

Going to do the clutch and decat downpipe at same time. After that it'll be the rear discs/pads and handbrake cable to get sorted. Then....who knows what else will go LOL!!
