The Subaru engine fits in VWs thats for sure, its an off the shelf kit that costs 400quid from a company not too far from my abode. What seems to have happened is that engineering has been spent perfecting the converstion, that they haven't looked at what can be done to tune and remap the engine.
And no, that project (like so many others - bit the dust!)

Hi guy's,
For 60 quid you can't go wrong with this ecu upgrade, Scott has just fitted this to my 95 wrx and what a difference. OK, yes I have just fitted a front mount but without the higher levels of boost/fuel cut and other bits that have been tweaked I was told the car would run rough until a remappable ecu or unichip with a boost module was fitted. Markus, you will notice the difference straight away Kevin had this fitted by Scott on Thursday, had a smile on his face all the home. He quoted 'best 60 quid he had spent on the car' since a certain company charged him £4000 for a bullet proof engine rebuild...I'm not going to mention any names..
Rgds, Bryan

Guy's.....
If you read the thread from the start you should get all the info you need, but to keep it short and sweet, it goes something like this.......
Myself (Scott), Paul (Pavlo) and David Wallis of DIY FMIC fame are putting together adaptors that fit into the spare socket in Pre96 Impreza or Legacy Turbo ECU.
The PCB's are made in a batch. This batch is then split between the 3 of us. Each of us then source the components and build them.
The Maps we have are what all 3 of us have aquired via downloading from other vehicles or produced from known good maps.
This Adaptor can be loaded with a modified map allowing better fuelling/ignition timing/fuel-cut raised/Boost Target raised and better Boost Control.
This also allows for example an MY93/94 WRX to run a MY95/96 map, which increases boost by 1.5psi and has a much better fuel and iginition Maps.
In some cases though the ECU may require a 28-pin socket to be soldered to the spare slot on the main board (some ECU already have 1 fitted, some don't).
However, there are endless other options....
For Example Bryan and Kevin are running a Map 'Aquired' from Japanese Tuning firm, which I have modified to give better Boost Control. However this map already came with Ignition and fuelling mods and a Target Boost of 16.5psi.
I am currently running 15.2psi in an MY94 UK and am concentrating my efforts on getting Better Spool up but remaining at 15psi
Paul has modified a map to get his 94 Legacy up to 250BHP with under 14psi of boost (I think I'm right there Paul) and David is mapping one to suite his heavily modifed Impreza.
Basically once you have one of these boards you can do what you like
With respect to the mentioned £60, that is what I believe the 3 of us are 'Currently' charging for an adaptor with an 'Off the Shelf' map.
And before anybody shouts 'Banner Ad', I have already enquired about being part of the new Scoobynet Shop.....

David YHM (your email address was closest )
is this with the ECU remapped or as standard? are you saying that the ecu can't be mapped to match the spool up/hold boost of the dawes?
i'll put my printout up in a minute if i can get my FTP working
kev
My legacy has trouble holding boost over 5500rpm, drops quite sharply to ab......

Mark, W/E for some!
In my redundant state however, I have a full day of golf tomorrow...
Kent is not too far away, I'm away this weekend, but can visit next week in the late afternoon depending when you get in from work wtc.

Thanks Paul
I work in London,so not home before 7ish, but might wangle a day off soon. I've got so much stuff to sort out on the car.
Don't be getting another job just yet, if need any golf stuff let me know, I may be able to get a good deal in exchange for some injectors.

I am crap at golf, and work hard to keep it that way, I find I enjoy it more.
I have recenty trebled my club count to 9.
I am going to enjoy my break don't worry!
Main thing after various sorting out days, is to work full time on this really.

Where it says ROM is where the socket will/won't be depending on ECU. If the socket isn't fitted the ROM footprint on the PCB has all the holes filled with solder. This needs to be heated and sucked out before a 28-pin socket can be fitted.
