Might be a 10min job Chris, but you need a good fine tipped soldering iron and a very good Solder sucker.
Hence why I take them into work and do them in the lab.
Mark A... if you can drop the ECU down to me at work I can get it sorted in my lunch break or after hours...(see my last mail to you to see I'm not that far away).

My ecu is somewhat different to the one shown, although it has a chip socket and a wire link marked J1 - do we think that this is going to be compatible with the ROM board?
Pavlo, it would make sense if I bought one of the boards from you as you're probably close enough to drive to (or meet half way). As discussed off-line with Scott_T I need a board with two blank EPROMs.

Paul,
PhatBob has Normally Asspirated ECU's (i.e for Non Turbo Boxer Engines) that are being used in a Kit car (from what I can make out). I think one of these ECU should be borrowed by one of us so that we can try and download the MAP.
Once we have the map we should be able to see how compatible things are and see if things look familiar....

I have a number (3) of ECUs all from non-turbo engines, I can avail one or all of them to you. The engines are from the Legacy (EJ22) and are being used in VW Beetles (and my off-road buggy - http://www.cfoffroadracing.co.uk/) The VW's are being drag raced on Nov 3rd - so we are trying to get things moving as soon as is possible - saying this the cars are in peices so I havent tried to download the map yet. I have an ECU open and on my desk along with a breadboarded ECU reader - I will knock up the relevant code to download the map when I've connected it to a live ECU as I havent got the room or time to try to start wiring up the ECU on the desk. Once I've got a map or two I will be able to pass them over to either of you to see if there will be any compatability problems.
For starters the drag racers have found that the ECU from the automatic Legacy gives better launches, but looses the top end than the manual maps give - so I was going to look at the differences and try to give them automatic settings at the low end and manual for the top. With a bit of luck this may help me solve any possible checksum problems (if they exist on this type of ECU).

Hi chaps,
Scott has done this chip for me and the car is running fine, If any of you are local to me (Crawley)you are more than welcome to come over and take the car for a drive. This is for serious buyers of the upgrade and no test pilots, If you have shown a interest Scott would have a record of this from the e-mails he has received and I will be checking details with him before any drive. Markus, I have replied to your mail, if you require any more information speak to Scott or David if you want a drive give me a call.
Scott I mailed you yesterday and will be in touch soon.
Rgds, Bryan

I have a picture of my modified ECU if anybody wants to see whats involved.
The picture is 500k so can't use turbosport uploader.
Cheers Scott for the quick turn-around.

Scott,
Had a long drive in the car last night, and the difference in performance is amazing, car feels sharper again and I can hear the turbo whistling once more
Have mailed u at your work e-mail.
Well happy

Advice welcomed
Fitted the remapped ECU "prova 16.5psi" c/o Scott and took the car for a run to reset the ECU (does it matter how you drive the car while the ECU is learning), everything went fine till last night diving back on the A21 and overtook van in 3rd, at about 5k the engine hit a limiter and engine check light came on, stopped the car and checked the ECU for error codes, but non displayed.
I think it must have overboosted, I plan to fit a boost gauge this week and re-connect the AFR meter.
Is it possible to reduce the boost slightly mechanically or would I need to use another chip/board ? and what is the peak boost set to with this map ?
I think this problem is made worse by the de-catted down pipe and air filter. I love the way the thing pulls up to 5k, its like a freight train, just need to know how to control it a bit better.

Did have one till the kind alarm installer cut it all out along with AFR, Just need to see a picture of one, ie where the wires go on the PCB, I removed it from the box and had it mounted under the dash cowling with the lights pushedand fixed through holes.

Mark,
I think David Wallis said he had a circuit diagram for one.... drop him a line and im sure he'll point you in the right direction.
Tony.
P.s When i fitted the chip i got fuel cut a few times... CEL came on then went out later (error code 24). It was just a coincidence and the idle valve soleniod thing was playing up. When this happens the ECU limits your speed via fuel cut.... i sprayed some brake cleaner in the soleniod and all is now fine. Probably isn't your problem but you never know .

Mark A,
You have mail with respect to a less aggresive spool up due to your decat doing a bit of work for me i.e it gives better spool up, so the ECU don't need to work the solenoid so hard.
Also belt & braises action taken against detonation. The ignition map on the origional 'Performance' map source/sources had a fair amount of advance at high load/high rpm.

To clarify my position:
I'm not going commercial
I'm not giving up on this
I will be doing specials for one off cars, davids car is a good example.
I've made no money on this at all, in fact, with what I've spent on tools, programmer, WB AFR meter, I'm well down.
Bare boards and "plug in and go" boards are still available from the Scoobynet Shop etc.

I only realised today, that Andy only managed 7ftlbs more torque on his, at a much higher boost figure. Which certainly says the mapping wasn't too bad!
Also been comparing some other results from well lane, think your car did very well.
Bigger turbo required, as harvey's 417hp was only on 23psi of boost.
Onwards and upwards.
