What do you want from a Subaru Car Club?
I have to agree with some points. True grip does not advertise all event. Up until getting internet access in January I was VERY RARELY told about events and most of the time true grip arrived too late to goto or even book events! It is not much better now. I have written several times to complain about the internet free crowd and not really got a satisfactory answer.
I think SM has some very valid points, he has also addressed the issues in a non-aggressive manner so there is no need to be hostile with him.
I am also grateful of the work that comes out of the SIDC, where else would I get a tax disc holder?
But I agree that as members, we get very little say as to how things should be run. I feel a little perplexed to see money dished out of the club without proper consultation of its membership. Perhaps I am wrong, we don't have a say in the funds are processed.
However, I will hold out on any judgement until the SIDC forums reach maturity, I am hoping for some sort of interactive procedure where decisions are made by not only committee members but by the people that fund the club also.

Three cheers for Bentley - we should have more of this and well done to Markus - it would have been great as a Scooby event - so no-one being rude to Ronnie, well no more than normal anyway.
The thing about Bentley is that many of the 48 cars that turned up were the same cars that go to the Fleet/Boxhill/Mytchett meet. Is this good or bad - who knows.
What I think the SIDC should organise is a nice park like Bentley, a track, a skid pan, a BBQ AND warm sunny weather
Sorry that may seem insensitive in this thread LOL
I will put my money where my mouth is and hook up with the Bad Boy and see if we can get a Hants venue and a event later in the year to build on the Mytchett meet, I am sure that Dr Evil will help out now he is a new age motorist.

Thanks for your support and positive suggestions. The Fleet meet is highly regarded and your work has been praised many times, as has that of DrEvil. I thought an SIDC RO had helped, as I know so many SIDC people who attend. I now realise we don't have one for the area.
As you suggest, lets get together and build on what's been started.
I am very interested as to who has been attending track days and bragging that they are not a member. Please mail me off line, so we can take action. This takes the p1ss out of all members, not just an overworked worked events secretary.

Pete C,
Thanks for the feedback, and thanks to all that attend the Fleet/Mychett/Surrey meets, and those that helped document them, Rob Barron for one. Andy Tang has continued the meet else where.
How do we nominate an RO for surrey??
Cheers, Alex

Hi
I am the Staffordshire RO for the SIDC.
I operate a telephone only list for non internet people to make them aware of the Meets etc that I oragnise.
My contact details are in True Grip and I have received calls from a few people who don't have internet access.
Prior to that I used the BBS in it's various incarnations to mainatin E Mail distribution lists and E Mail details out.
With the advent of the SIDC BBS the notification of events will only get better and the Committee should be congratulated
for taking this step.
It will certainly aid me in organising future events.

Thanks Trout at least someone out there has noticed there is a regional rep for Hants.....it's ME!
I will be more than happy to meet all you local event organiser's to try and pull the area together, especially seeing you have more experience than I.
See you all on the 17th.
Cheers Paul.

RONNIE APOLOGY.. *ONE OF TWO THIS YEAR* (tm)
Im sorry if my points were *harsh* and I apologise for making out that the commitee is too busy...
Lee and Lisa work very hard, as does Pete and as does Tony and Stef (im not sure who the rest of the board of SIDC consists of
sorry guys and gals!) and this cannot go un-noticed or without praise.
I have removed my comments and will keep them from being mentioned again, clearly I am off target.
I guess I am still pissed off about my Bentley experience.

The cost of getting TN to attend our track events is included in the cost of the event.
In return for this several 'basic' services are offered. These are the use of air lines, wheel changing and general help should any problem arise. Any other work is chargeable at very competetive rates for example, changing brake pads, changing tyres on rims, etc, as these require more time.
We will hopefully have a fixed tariff in the near future which will show the cost of these extra services.
I think most people agree that the services I've mentioned are well worth a fiver on the cost of the day though.
It is also worth noting that they attend these events in an unmarked van with only an SIDC logo on the side which I think is very professional.
Stef.

At last a thread that confirms my suspicions and previous threads SIDC is a National Track day club with a few regional organisers trying to do other things for members who are not interested in knackering thier cars around a circuit.
I think the Bentley day was a much better idea and Markus did an excellent job, we travelled over 150 miles to it and that was not a waste of time. Although Pete would like to think SIDC had a hand in it, thats a laugh, no SIDC presence was evident except a few tax disc holders. Also whats wrong with keeping your car in pristine condition and being proud to show it off..
As for emails and mail shots I too have had none, the SIDC website is not updated with regional organisers details, in fact it changes very little.
It should change its name to the Subaru Track Day Club.
Will someone out there be brave enough to start a club for , as Pete puts it "a jamboree/park and shine " fans, who don't need to show how big our ball's are..

I wasn't taking the p1ss, my
was because Trax is a great event.
I'd love to have our own version and Stef has already been working on this, for next year. These things take at least a year to plan, to get the right venue and the right activities in place. He joined the Committee late last year and started on the planning straight away.
He is planning a track location, but with extensive non track family activities. The Pirelli WRC car "playstation" game truck, skid frame car, go karts, a parts jumble sale, raffles, competitions etc.
Hopefully, full details at the AGM.
I do seriously that everyone has kept their sense of humour. At the end of the day, this whole thing is about fun. Fun in our cars and fun with friends we have met through the club.

ptholt,
there's no way that Stef's comments are aimed at you. The simple fact is that the SIDC requires volunteers to help co-ordinate regional meets now. There is no way that 6 part-time committee members can reconnaitre and co-ordinate meets for the entire country. We have some regional co-ordinators but we need regular regional meets so that the club has a focus in each area. The membership has increased greatly during the last few months and can now support such a structure in many areas. Previously most regional meets would have attracted only a handful of members purely because that was the number of members in that area. There must be almost 100 county and city councils in the UK, so a membership of 1,000 equals just 10 people per county. I think that the activity on this BBS sometimes gives a false impression of the size of this community. It really is still relatively small. Scoobynet has 6,000+ registered names, but maybe only 3,000 "members". Many are registered twice or more and some have moved on to new pastures.
We are only just moving to a regional structure so we are all learning but we need a few more people to step forward and help out. The committee is made up of unpaid volunteers who all donate time and energy to the club. If any of you think that you can help and are willing to donate time to the club that we all want to see improve then please contact us. Obviously the more resources that we have the better. The club does offer tangible benefits, with more resources we could obviously introduce more benefits more quickly. I hope that you can see that progress is being made and there are plenty of plans that have yet to come to fruition and that you will hopefully see the benefit of soon.
Rannoch, we would greatly welcome you as an organiser for the Surrey/Hampshire region. You had established the Fleet meet prior to either you or me becoming members of the SIDC. I was always kind of worried about "hijacking" it in the name of SIDC as that seemed inappropriate as you only recently became a member. Even if you don't wish to be a named co-ordinator, would you have any objection to making the Fleet meet a regular fixed date that we could publish in True Grip?
I trust that Lee has taken care of the notification problems now but you could have mentioned them to either myself or Lee earlier.

I forgot to answer Spooky Mulder's point about financial accountability. The accounts for the year are circulated at every AGM and, last year, we asked you all for the AGM to be moved back to October, to allow Tony more time preparing them. This move means that they can be prepared showing more detail in the various heads of income/expenditure.
The thing that upsets me is that there is a thread along the lines of "what does my club do for me?" every month or so.
But no one has started a thread entitled "what can I do for my club?"
And it is your club.
Graham Cowland is co-ordinating the regions. If you want to help, drop him a mail on

Tony,
I don't know what I don't know. And in this case I didn't know I was missing out on email notification until I found out recently - which would explain my lack of presence on SIDC track days.
Can I assume that it will be fixed now. Membership No: 8601.
Stef,
as far as I can tell there are only two 'anonymous' posters here and at least one asked for some confirmation of nothing that was not factual - and the SIDC committee have answered very comprehensively.
It would seem reasonable that with a membership that must be in 1000s and a Scooby community here that is as large there may be one or two people asking interesting questions, even it is only to make SIDC activities more visible.
And, no I haven't logged on to the SIDC BBS as it was not in my conciousness until posted in this thread!
People want a range of things from the club and it is clear from this post that not all of those things have been visible to both members, and non-members who need to be attracted to join. I have also heard murmerings about why pay the £20 to join, especially from non-track day enthusiasts.

Thanks for clarification Stef. Please don't get me wrong, the guys (especially Mark) put in a huge amount of effort and are worth every penny. I, for one, would not like to see them replaced by any other outfit.

OK then, my turn.
TN @ trackdays = very good idea, if you need 'em and they ain't there then you're f**ked.
As Pete/Stef say SIDC is a Drivers club, for driving!! All social events are arranged through BBS so whats the prob, oh, some people don't have access - i've got no answer there....
However, a yearly event is a great idea, every club should have one. Something like - at a track, doesn't have to be a track day (you could always walk round it) get food in, music, invite GGR / Scoobysport / Scoobymania and other suppliers. Have a few competitions, best mod/best looking/most original/cleanest/dirtiest that sort of thing. Bit of a raffle, game of footie. Water pistol fight. On the day workshop where Steve shows how a boost gauge/backbox is fitted. Mark shows how to change yer pedals and apply WRX stickers. I demonstrate how NOT to remove the parcel shelf. And Kim shows how to sunbathe and drink lots of coke. Spend loadsa cash and have a good day out. Maybe a 0-60 time test?? mmmm. With kids and family ALL invited.
As others have said notification of events IS getting better and should continue to do so.

I assume from the BIG GRIN that you were taking the ****/having a little joke (which is good cause I think some people on here have misplaced their sense of humour for the time being). But I do think that the SIDC annual event should be something in-between my amusing (well i thought so) idea and a smaller TRAX catering for just SIDC. What say you??

Just reading a few bits and thinking etc (dangerous at this time of night).
Is there an sidc rep for sussex area etc?
Stupot and myself organised a couple of meets last year, and dyney + co have taken the mantle so far this year, one thing we all agreed on was, who is our sidc rep? what do we get from the sidc?
Were all members and not one of us knows who it is.......
(sidc tax disc holders at bentley?? The only ones i saw were in owners windscreens!).
Top points to markus though for organising it.

There are several events for people that don't want to go on track, take Billing for example. The PERFECT location, the PERFECT family event and the PERFECT facilities for a social meet. After all the moaning how many people have expressed an interest in turning up? Exactly.
The SIDC is definitely not a track day club, but meets need organisers. We can't force people to arrange social meets. If you're so fed up why don't YOU do something about it and help organsie something? It seems people are always so keen to moan (anonymously it seems) and yet when push comes to shove they do nothing.
If members want more social meets and events all they have to do is ask. Do you have any idea how much work goes into organising an event? The club will always do it's best for it's members, that's what the club exists for.
And speaking of how big our ***** are, why do so many 'moaners' insist on hiding their identity??
This anti-SIDC thing is getting silly now.
If you want to be in the club, great.
If you don't, it's your loss.

I dont think me using a username that i've always used, is included in my email address and since i registered on the site in dec 99 as hiding............
As for organising things i think i did a bit last year thanks, also if you chat with your chairman, i offered to take free photos of members cars at meets/track days (like i've dont at the last two goodwood track days and sidc at brands) for themselves via email and inclusion in true grip at no cost to the club as i enjoyed doing it, there not brilliant, but i thought it would be welcomed.
Obviously not though as i never got a reply other than to thank me for the photo.

Another trackday based 'social event', hmm, question. Will the track be utiliesed by SIDC? in other words will it be a trackday but with a social side as well?

Ok, thanks to all for nice comments about my aranging Bentley.
For the record, I was, asked by SIDC if I would like to take on the position of "SIDC Social Events Secretary"
I declined. why? well, even though I'd have a great team to back me up, i felt that I want to arrange a few more meets on my own to get a bit of experience of doing it, as i'd not want to **** up an event and therefore have the **** up seen as a bad mark against the club.
Thus. from time to time a few smallish, maybe mediumish, South East social meets might appear on the southern section of this bbs, as I try and get a hold of doing this type of thing. OK, so I could be Kent Regional Organiser, but the meets I may arrange might be too frequent and too small to warrant being an official club meet, plus it being promoted as an SIDC meet might put of some people, which may have come along and then learned about SIDC and then joined. I will of course promote SIDC at any meets I may setup.
However, it seems that some people don't like the fact that I'm trying to discuss the posibility of arranging social meets for next year, Mainly Bentley 2002 (see this thread
