This was around the same time as Vauxhall brought out a mk2 Astra called the Quicksilver I believe, which had a very similar paint job.

You could be right, but I cant be certain, however Googling the image of the B6 3.5s it does look how I recall it, i'll see if I can get some old photographs of it amongst his other toys to share with you all.

That would be great if you could find photos, I've tried google image search but can't find any with that paint job. I've definitely seen pictures of one, and from memory remember it having the e30 M3 boot lid with integrated spoiler. I also think it had *centra* style alloys instead of the straight spoke alpine wheels, but again could be wrong!

* if you've seen wheeler dealers episode with BMW 635csi they are the style of wheel that he bought the car with.

See you boys mentioning Saab 99 Turbo's, had a girlfriend that used to have one about 30yrs ago was black too, loved driving that car... shame she irritated me that much that I had to dump her, family was minted ... missed the car more than her.

Saw one fully restored in Notts a few months back, looked outstanding, brought back a few memories.

Funnily enough I've just been speaking to a fella about them, was doing some gardening next door to his house and spied a 96 under a cover on his drive. He said he pulled it out of a field a couple of months back but it's still solid, and is going to turn it into a rally replica. He has another immaculate example in his garage and a couple of other more modern Saabs. He was quite surprised about the chat as he said not a lot of people know anything about them.

True, beautiful. Japanese or not. So many things Japan has done so well. Good looking cars that work.

On that note MX5 Mk 1. Why the hell couldn't Britain make a nice 2 seater. That worked... why oh why

That would be the British work farce mentality....I take it you've not met many Brummies, and then there was Dagenham... Southern inbred puftas.

Not forgetting TVR, plastic fantastic, and Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious.

And much like today we sold the bits that were any good.

When the rest of the world were making fantastic looking cars, we were making Allegro's, Metros and Montego's.

We did make some good looking cars, but they were shoit mechanically and electrically.

Triumph Stag, Spitfire, and Dolomite Sprint were pretty snazy in their day, but all had reliability issues.

Aston, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Jaguar also made some cracking cars, but the Japs and Krauts smashed them all out of the park with reliability.

Has to be in the rally rep. red, though.

Two cars I wished I'd owned, and still own. The RS1800 was the ultimate "Q" car, like the RS1600 before it and the Twincam before that.

One of my friends had a factory orange earlier model rs Mexico. It was years ago when he had it as it was his first car. I bet he wishes he still had it

That model is too boxy and the older model looks much better.

Pedantic hat on, the Mexico was never labelled as an RS. The orange is actually called Sebring red, father in law bought one new back in the day in Daytona yellow.

I remember being at college 25 years ago and a lad in my class passed his test, and turned up in his first car, an immaculate white mk1 Mexico with black stripes.
Following week massive crease down the rear 1/4 panel where he sideswiped a lamp post.
