Andy97 - you have the best solution, and you are managing it well (can't say every joe soap/dizzy bimbo will be as conscientious) - in that you are striving to use battery wherever possible, but have the petrol engine as backup for those rare long journeys - which is what the Leaf sorely lacks - its its limited range which is the killer - your Volvo fixes that problem with careful management - at the current technology IMHO it's the best balance of usability and low emissions

Not particularly I've not seen even the vaguest suggestion that anyone in this thread holds that belief.
That aside however, domestic micro generation and energy storage would do a lot to counter any of the load issues associated with increased uptake of EV's.
