I was hoping to get some money for a good cause as compensation for being called a liar but Mark didn't have the ***** for it

Thank you.

I'm quite ok about it as nobody was hurt but the wife and kids are quite upset about the whole thing. Not because of the material value but because it makes them feel vulnerable and unsafe.

Funny thing was I spent three hours washing and detailing the car the day before it was nicked.

I'd love a turbo one day! Have you decided what you are going to get to replace it Ding? Or has this whole experience soured your view on getting something similar?

I think we all are.

To make such a bold and inflammatory post implies he knew something the rest of us didn't.

That he's now gone quiet and wasn't prepared to accept the wager implies he has since realised it was an outrageous thing to post.

And I'm no distinguished professor of the English language, but "I think not" is definitely an assertion; he asserted his belief that the porker in the pics never left the showroom.

Thanks UC.

Fabioso, I'm not sure what I'll do tbh. I really loved driving and owning that car, I've wanted one for close to twenty years. However this experience has had an effect on me, no point owning something that is meant to give you pleasure if you then just end up stressing out about it.

If I did buy another I'd have to install electric gates with all the hassle and cost involved.

So not sure which way I'll go but I was nowhere near getting bored of the car yet. I hadn't even used the much lauded launch control or gone on the Porsche Experience day to learn its limits and dynamics on a track.

Cheers

Get some gates up...!

Many years ago I was washing and polishing my Fireblade motor bike in Repsol colours, polished frame the lot..on the driveway.
That night it was stolen out of my garage.
Looking back I am pretty sure 2 lads had walked passed the drive as I was doing it but I did not give it a second thought at the time to be honest.
I am pretty sure if they hadn't seen it that day it would not have been knicked. Opportunist thieves I think. The police did chase it round Beswick (near Citys ground) and they dumped it. So I did get it back.
In the end I extended the porch to accommodate the bike to keep it safer as I was not giving it up due to *******.

Still avoiding answering the question; I'll have to start calling you Martin!

I don't feel strongly about it. After all, you haven't accused me of being a liar and a fantasist.

And why should I fork out £500 to Ding's favourite charity? You're the one making the unsubstantiated accusations. Besides, I donate plenty of money to charity already.

On topic of theft:

A friends Blobeye was stolen from his drive a good few years ago, they took the car without the keys etc, somehow muted the alarm somehow and bust the steering lock etc.

Anyhow he got the car back, and the insurance demanded he added more features to his property to reduce the risk, so he installed collapsible bollards. Guess what, they/someone returned when he was out on the pop one night, kicked his house door in and took the keys for the bollards and the car!

Moral is: If they want it, they are going to take it and no amount of risk reduction is going to stop someone if they are hell bent on taking it!

I agree with you to a point but something like a Porsche that's not on every street corner will be specifically targeted and taken come what may, sadly....

I was speaking to a mate at a works function last night and he has just bought an R8 600+ bhp .
I hadn't seen him for a while and did not know he had it.
Cut a long story short ,he was telling me he went out in it the other day and within minutes he had a phone call from his tracking company (cobra I think he said). They were asking him if he was with his car ?
He had left the house without his wallet (probably why he can afford the brand new R8..!).
Anyhow he explained that the "fob" for his tracker was in his wallet and once it becomes distant from his vehicle it alerts the tracker company who if they see the car on the move will assume the car has been stolen and contact the owner immediately followed by the Police.
Would something like this have helped you Ding in your circumstances or maybe something for the next car ?
Seems pretty safe way of at least getting car back ,so long as it does not end up in a Police pursuit.

Don't the scumbags now have tracker blockers? This is what I was told when mine was stolen, perhaps the new trackers are better?
My latest car has a few good anti theft measures on it which means even with keys they wouldn't get it unless they load it/tow it away!

More than likely, last time I looked most trackers relied on a mobile phone signal. So wouldn't be particularly difficult to block.

Hi
Car is definitely gone for good. To some extent it has put me off owning a very flash car....but I think I will buy one again. I really enjoyed owning it.

Insurance should hopefully be paying soon so I can start to look properly, it will take me months to find the right car.

I'm getting quotes for electric gates and will probably install the device that Scoobyboy has kindly suggested.....and I'm going to buy a steering lock.

Good on ya...
You can always padlock the gates as well to be honest ,just so they know you aint given it up easy.
The steering lock is a real simple fix as well which you can obviously use when parking the car when your away from the house.
I have the old disklok myself, which is a good visible deterrent.
You cant let the Scum win.

I'm hoping to replace the car within the next few months. This device looks great.

With the exception of physical deterrents (ie steering locks) are there any other products out there that are also worth looking at?

Thanks

Quick release to remove the steering wheel. NRG is excellent... Esp. if you also buy the lockable metal cover thing for the steering column end.
