Re: Ultrac Sessanta........ I believe they no longer make these and they have been replaced with a more conventional tread pattern tyre.

 

After more reading I'm thinking I'd be better off going with a 225 tyre and just hope I don't have any rubbing issues.. there seems to be so many more options at that size.

I think a 225 tyre is acceptable on some classics without work tbh depending on et and width of wheels etc, its just a risk to get them and have to roll arches etc or just raise suspension slightly

Exactly the same, here.

But FTR, in terms of ride, there's hardly any difference between this size and my previous 215/45 R17 set-up. For me, at least.

So, 215/35 R18 on Mill. Revs with Conti CS 5. Okay, maybe not the 'sexiest' boots out there, so to speak - but have had zero issues with these tyres. Great dry grip - they 'bite' into turns tenaciously. Plus, allegedly excellent in the wet (I don't really push in the wet). I've never had them 'step out' on me in any conditions.... Yet!


When I need to replace, I'll prob change to whatever the latest Michelin Super Sport will be.

 

Pilot Sport 4S available in 19's and 20's in the new year.

 

I you must have an 18" wheel - I think your original idea of 215 is better.

If it's a trackday tyre your after? Then:
Federal 595 rs-rr (the rs-r replacement) is made in an 215/40 18 with an actual measured width of 216mm.
The last thing you need, if your running a properly compliant suspension and sensible camber, is a supposedly 225 tyre measuring 10mm wider - which is not uncommon.

Fair point, I've been doing alot of reading over the last couple of days and like you say, it's not uncommon for tyres to be quite a bit wider than the stated size....

Now am I right in thinking if a Fuel and Wet rating + the speed rate is the same on Tyres.. they are just as good?

why is a £227 tyre any better than a £99 tyre when they have the same E fuel & A wet ratings?

S/drives? Were on car when it came from Japan nice in dry but really not good in wet/damp plus awful road noise.

Excellent grip and long lasting are not 2 things that go together when talking about tyres.

I always stick to brands I've heard of when it comes to tyres, 10/20 quid a corner is hardly worth it when it comes to compromising safety.

 

Kumho's come out good.. plus there R&D is in Birmingham (UK) at £110 a corner.

I've had Vredestein Sessanta for the last 2 sets - good tyre. Just put a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 on - recommend those!

They are based in Holland i believe but excellent prices and delivery is normally 2-3 days
Can then get them fitted at a local place for £10 a corner. Would highly recomend

A terrible time with Tyre Leader or the Tyres? Never had a problem with Tyre Leader - I have used them loads. Tyres seem fine to me.

Eagle F1 used to be good then they started messing with them and turned a good thing into rubbish. I hear they are changing the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's which are an excellent tyre why change a good thing.

 

Genuinely interested to know why Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's are "Terrible" / "Rubbish". In what way?
