Yeah, I get you, but at least you will be able to get to the source of the issue

Part # IN04254 from cpc.co.uk:

Voltage low indication: <195 V ±5%
Voltage high indication: > 270 V ± 5%
Couldn't tell you if that would be a close enough threshold to explain the issue with your Makita, but a handy gadget to have around the house anyway.

You should be able to diagnose it yourself. To be honest.

Id even talk you through it. There is plenty you can don't be sure of a fault before spending ££££

If you blew a load of fuses in the same socket there is a chance you have damaged something in the circuit giving excess voltage drop.

Worth having it checked.

All in different sockets. I thought of that first. It blew fuses in the extension lead, not the shredder plug.

Multimeter set to correct volts scale and connected across +and - at the offending socket and then start the machine and watch the reading on the meter should tell if it is volts drop.

Most meters won't react quick enough to see this...

I would have done the calculation. For alcazar but he would rather pay someone it seems ☺

I will stand corrected about the multimeter(digital) but an analogue meter should do it.

A proper meter. They don't make em like they used too.

My analogue megger is my favourite bit of kit. Next to my plasma cutter anyway

I agree...and you wouldn't mock if you had my luck. I'm serious, I make that guy on the fast show look like Stan Lee's Lucky Man.

And you wonder why I'm negative?

If you visualise being 'unlucky' you'll be 'unlucky'. It's the law of attraction.

Nope. Doesn't work for me.

Minor example. When on a journey, I approach a roundabout. I watch EVERY car in front of me enter the roundabout without stopping. When it's my turn...there comes someone from the right, and I'm forced to stop. every time.

Ask anyone who's driven with me.

If I buy anything, I can almost guarantee it will need to go back. Or they won't have it in stock..or something.

After a while, you just get to expect it.

And would being positive alter it? At all?

Pathetic? aye...but YOU try living with it, day in, day out.

One of my sister's kids asked her recently, regarding our family, "Jeeeesus, does anything good EVER happen for that family?"

Here's another example. I used to do the lottery. I had won £10, when all my mates, neighbours etc had had several wins each. I then went TWENTY SIX draws without a single one of my numbers coming up. Not one.

Do the maths: the odds are almost as high as winning.

This must be very distressing for you, and the expectation of failure greatly heightens the likelihood of it occurring. This is the main thrust of sports psychology, where a change of mindset is instrumental in promoting a successful outcome. Have you considered seeking professional assistance? It could transform your entire life.

I think Alcazar might be a manic depressive, i mean who counts faulty power points as bad luck? Its not the end of the world is it, **** happens, for example last month i hit a pheasant in my nearly new car, £300 worth of damage, the month after i got a puncture, £200, then 2 weeks ago a woman veered into my lane and nuked/swiped my door mirror, another £400, bad luck? well yea, as none of it was my fault, but that's life.
