I was looking for a runabout myself and put aside £2k for a winter hack, looked at classic Impreza wagons(£2k will get you a nail), ended up getting one of these Corsa VXR's after seeing this thread and pocketed the money I had for the runabout aside!!

Mine gets delivered 2nd December!!!

Excellent bet you can't wait I'm up to 1800 miles now so going to put it away for the Winter and carry on using my Pathfinder. Need to back off on the miles and would rather be in a 4x4 for Winter anyway and save the VXR for Spring time. I bet my plans last a week

I have done the banger thing for my Mrs for the last 10yrs and it's been great so far, but seriously considering going the cheap lease deal route for the next car.

Yeah I've put aside about the same, it's very tempting. The deals I've seen seem to start at around £150 a month with 6 up front and that's with the 18's. That's on Nationwide's site.

Any other places worth a look to get it down?

Yeah there some great deals about at the moment, dont forget you dont pay road tax as its included, warranty included, and breakdown recovery is all included in the price, and you dont have to worry about depreciation, some deals I was looking at had maintenance included for a extra £20 a month and that included tyres/bulbs/pads etc replacement.

I know Citroen was doing a deal with a £1000 deposit and £4.99 a month on lease There are quite a few basic cars which can be had for less then £70-80 a month which is worth it for the missus to drive around in a new car!

With the Corsa VXR Astons Vauxhall where the cheapest with that deal, I know there are cheap deals going around on the new Peugeot 208 GTi, but only problem is you got to put a bigger deposit down on most of them, The Corsa VXR is the only deal I have know on lease that had no deposit as the OP got and mine was £180.

These usually have some cheap deals
http://www.centralukvehicleleasing.co.uk/special_offers

This is a cheap deal on the Pug 208 GTi £108 a month inc VAT, but the deposit is a bit high!!

I test drove the 208 GTI as that was also a hot deal over on HUKD months before the VXR deal and I missed out on it and i'm bloody pleased I did miss out as the VXR is miles better. The 208 just didn't feel quick at all or have anywhere near as nice a cabin.

Yeah got sorted in the end, Lucky enough I didn't have to pay any extra to the finance company as I didnt have GAP insurance!! but lost a big chunk of deposit, you would not believe how much a 3 week old car with 400 mile on the clock loses as it leaves the showroom(or the insurance company would value it)!!

Got this VXR on a cheap lease now and its great, I would like to buy it for the wife once the lease is up on it, but it ticks the boxes at the moment as my daily hack(could do with being a bit quicker though)

Hows the Focus RS, you still enjoying it???

Its the sound of the exhaust I love on the mk2 RS, easily one of the best car sounds ever, especially when they pop and bang, the Mk3 FRS has really got a lot to live upto.

I would love another RS one day. think ive got the whole Subaru/Evo thing out my system now, I dont seem to get the same buzz as I used to.

That's interesting, because all the anti-MKIII boys on Focus RS OC would have you believe that even a MKII MR420 can find traction in anything but the very worst of weather

Haha.....ill freely admit to it being a waste of time in the wrong weather
Even on a dry day it struggles 1st and 2nd if giving it the loud pedal.
But even though the haters hate....I still love them!!
This is my 2nd , first was the UG and completely standard and was the better car.
How people rate them 400+ I'll never know unless it's just track use only

My VXR turned up today, shiny rock, with 18" alloys, carbon pack, light & sight pack, & tinted rear windows, got the £500.00 fuel card, currently have the headlight access bungs out to let the condensation out.

Looks stunning in grey

What do you think so far??? Have you signed up for the Vauxhall on-star yet?? The Vauxhall on-star is a free trial for a year, so worth signing up for it(just press the blue SOS button in the car, and they will guide you through it over the speakers)

No not done the onstar yet, only paired the phone in etc, only gone to fill it up with Tesco99, to busy at the moment, will give it a run at the weekend, did notice the turbo actuator etc is easily accessed.

What tyre pressures are you using, it came with over 40 psi in the fronts & 38 in the rear, I have dropped them to 32F, 30R, seems less harsh at that.

I haven't popped the bonnet yet, But thats good to know the actuator is easily accessed For some reason my exhaust midsection has no silencer in either, sounds throaty

The dash says 34F 32R on the tyre pressure.

Looks very nice Paul, I take it the ride is a bit on the firm side with the 18's then?

I'm still weighing up options, the seats in these keep making me want one. and at around an extra £40/50 a month over my initial budget they still come in at around break even with what I'm driving now, before tyres and repairs, which is silly really.

I had tried one on the std 17" rims, not much difference, although the demo I tried on 18" rims had Continental tyres, mine has Pirelli's, & has a lot less road noise, that said the tyre pressure monitoring system is having moment,
it shows on one screen its the r/h rear, reset on another screen its the l/h rear.
Give it a go with a VXR on lease, I did have to pay £546.00 initial payment, but then given £500.00 fuel card, plus a £250.00 voucher from Vauxhall, mine is a 2 year, 8,000 mile p/a, plus I had 3 option packs as well which you pay for in full, so £197.00 a month.

That's a bloody good deal and still less than £500 over my original budget, be interested to know what your's and scoobyboys fuel consumption is like.

I wasn't really planning on going for it for another 5 months but seriously starting to think what's the point in waiting, could move things forward to easter if I get the right deal.

Who would have thought scooby owners could go on to driving a Corsa I get about 32-33mpg on a 120 mile plus run of a mix of dual carriageway and A and B roads.

£197 a month seems an excellent deal for 8k a year and 3 option packs. My tyres were from the factory and still are set to 35 all round.

Well there are now two things that put me off the VXR, one is the fuel consumption, as general opinion seems to be around the less than 30mpg mark combined, and the other is the ride, handling on the road and how it puts the power down.

Be Interested to hear your thoughts on theses two points guys.

I've only had less than 30mpg if I really rag it which only been a couple of times. I look at it that compared to a standard classic scoob it's fuel economy is miles better and it's only 6bhp less. I like the ride on mine but don't have the performance pack, i've heard that's the killer for a harsh ride. The handling I think is fantastic, it goes round corners like it's on rails. Yes you will get torque steer if you floor it in 1st but then what fwd 200+bhp car doesn't? I had an Octavia MKI vRS which was far worse with only 180bhp.

All in all I love mine, for the money it's a steal. Find another car with equal or better performance figures for less, that's how I look at it and it still puts a smile on my face every time I get in it and take it for a drive. Nothing has done that since scoob ownership.

Why pay for 10k a year if I might not do it, it didn't work out cheaper to pay up front so i'd much rather take the 5k and then pay for what I use above that and potentially save money over having taken the 10k a year deal.

Im getting not much more then 30mpg, I do a lot of city stop/start driving, Its much better then fuel then most turbo cars ive owned, I agree the handling is great it grips well on the roundabout even in the wet but thats as far as ive tested it.

As for torque steer goes its a lot better then my old Focus RS obviously 1st gear in a 200+bhp FWD car it's going to have some torque-steer/wheel spin, but 2nd gear onward in the dry I dont get any problems.

Nearly 2 months in, and 760miles done, I still love the little Corsa, it does everything I need(except in the snow at the moment) But as a everyday car that drives like a normal Corsa when you want it to, and then when you want a bit of fun turns into a bit of a fast go-kart it's great. For £180 a month I cant complain!!

Im restricted to 15k miles in 3 years, anything over Im charged 5p a mile over the 15k miles when the car goes back. So if I hand the car back after 3 years and the mileage is on 25k miles I'll be charged £500, which is like paying 3 months payments extra!!

I reckon i'll go over the 5k miles a year, but not by much!! As I feel now about the car I would like to buy at the end of the 3 year lease, just as I know im the only owner/driver of the car, even if I can give it to the missus, I cant see it being worth more then £10k when I come to buy as the invoice they gave me had the car at £17,5k.

Ummm, I think if I get a Corsa it might have to be the 1L or is it 1.2L turbo SRI tbh I drive like a granny most of the time these days, even when I do give it beans it's only usually in summer and probably once a month, so not really worth the premium for the 5/6 times I'll actually use the little bit of extra umph and I really want something that has at least high 40's combined (mid 50's would be better) I'm not really fussed about gadgets or anything fancy although I do like the seats and steering wheel but my mrs car has the same steering wheel so I presume the SRI will have it too, beyond that I'd sooner it was better on fuel and easy to live with on bumpy potholed roads than how quick it is.

I'm getting old and sensible.
