BTW.... cars with a proper ecu remap, decat downpipe and air filter are now achieving 60mph in 3.3s! (VBOX logged).
Regardless of opinion and relevance of the 60 sprint...... that's pretty feckin impressive.

Well I drove an A45 the other day. Regretfully, I don't think it is for me. I drove an M135i a little while ago and, all-round, I did prefer the M, so I'm almost sure this will be my next car. The only question is: when!?
The Mercedes salesman was a bit of a douchebag, to be fair. He told me before I even set off that I had to adhere to all speed limits at all times. At first I thought he was just saying the usual script, more as standard protocol than anything. But every time my right foot got even slightly heavy, he nearly had a seizure and kept saying: "Sir, I must ask you to slow down and adhere to the limit. Please!". When he asked for my opinion at the end, I told him that I couldn't really evaluate the car as I hadn't been allowed to drive it the way it's been designed to be driven. I also asked him if he really expected anyone to splash that much cash on a car without having driven it at least a little spiritedly. Afterall, people don't buy A45s for their comfort or practicality. At the end, I checked the trip computer, and since the car was new, it had averaged 17mpg. So somebody must've been out seriously hooning in it... either the sales reps or other prospective buyers who got a less stiff salesman as passenger.
Conversely, the guy from BMW actually encouraged me to drive faster in the M135i. He specifically directed me to roads where I could really see what it could do. A proper test drive!
I don't doubt for one minute that the A45 is an amazing piece of kit. Maybe I should go back to a different, less bureaucratic MB dealership and have another drive before completely discounting it altogether.

Matt don't you fancy a DMS ECU upgrade, looking at this they get 396 or 401 ? now that would be fun

Littleted; I don't do modding but some are getting great numbers.
It's plenty quick enough for us; too much power might kill the handling balance and smooth power delivery.

People who own A45 AMGs have small ****** and are just interested in numbers, ie "my car can do 0-60 in 3.3 secs and has more bhp than the smart people that buy the M135i etc".
Understeer, **** ride, the worst g/box of all in class, sounds ****ing **** and fake but oh.....wait a min... it does have more numbers including the price tag than the others.

Wish they'd ban 0-60 time quotes! Don't see the point myself, it's nothing more than pub talk. Who cares if one does 0-60 in 4 secs or 3.8 secs! To achieve the times you'd need to be launching with loads of revs etc. Even then, what's the point! If you're doing it anywhere someone can see, you'll look like a bellend. If you do it in some secluded area you'll feel like a bellend.
What they should do is a mag review of a certain group and have no figures. Then just have small paragraph reviews of 'acceleration' 'midrange pull' etc

Got to love Scooby owners, when the mk2 RS came out they all said "wont launch like my Classic" or "will kill you in the wet" Now cars like the A45 are out they are clinging at straws by having a dig at the price.

You do realise (I know you didn't - lol) those times I quoted for the 60 sprint were using the normal Sport mode on the gearbox. I.E. no race start/launch control. Just floor the throttle in drive.
Like I said it's impressive.

The new facelift model due in a few months...... with more power, better gbox and front mechanical diff.
Now I'll admit it sounds a bit limp wristed compared to the RS3, but I like the changes to the exterior. Is a better car based on what I see and what the spec changes allude to. Will be good how this fairs against the RS3 in a back to back test.

Besides "Tuner Wars" breaking out now in the A45 scene (same old ****e, different car marque lol), a UK A45 road car has just achieved an 11.8 at Stratford Raceway.
This is an ecu remap, exhaust and filter.
Grand scheme of things it's nothing to write home about, but heading in the right direction.

I'd struggle to get that in my garage, if at all. Width ways the A45 only just fits in, so I was limited to that sort of size vehicle.
Truth be known, if I didn't have an issue with my garage size, I would have gone down the GTR route.

What's going on with the project thread Shaun? Was a big sell at the start and it's been very quiet for last couple of months? Nothing occurring?
Must admit I do keep watching vids of these new super hatches! A45, Golf R, Audi S3/RS3.. All pretty cool motors.
I'd love the new RS3. Can't be many more chances to own a small hatch with an extra interesting engine (ie not just a 4cyl).
One thing I have noticed on the road though is the fact the Golf GTD looks nicer than the R. They certainly have better wheels for one. Seen a few now and they just look smarter than the R.

Progress has been slower than expected James. I'm awaiting confirmation of dates to get the next round of hardware fitted, so testing and the project can resume.
