how long a drive are you from ryan? as in what time did you set off when you rang at 2 to say you were 30mins away?

sounds like theres fault on both parts, but to spit your dummy out and threaten to take it off him in person, my god.

tbh I think splitting the postage costs sounded fair, esp as he gave you £20 off the price,

luckily you've got your money back and can now go and buy a shiney new one at triple the price

Glad its resolved ,, i think busta had a point if the guy left at 12:50 and clean forgot - as stated he does say 1pm give or take and no cut off time was indicated by rbon

Nowt more annoying then driving miles to collect something and vendor has forgot you and gone out

Other perspective - hope rbons emergency wasnt anything too bad and well done for giving the refund ,, was the right thing to do

Glad it's been resolved. I have dealt with both guys and they're both honest straight forward lads. Lack of communication seems to be the culprit here-lesson learnt.

Thanks for the good and crap comments.

Tbh, it amazes me how these things get sorted out so quickly when posted on here, so imo it worked.
It didn't even need to get to this as I'm not really into this bull, but he pissed me off on how he responded and welcomed me to post it after he wasn't willing to refund me.
As I said earlier, if he'd appolagised from the off, then I wouldn't of got annoyed, it's just typical manners.

But it's now the end, and I'll aviod buying anything from him in the future.

What a carry on

Busta is a high well respected poster

Ryan is a decent bloke who has done lots for the Subaru community and runs a fantastic club

I think the £20 should be given to a charity as way of compensation for all the bad mouthing that has gone in

It's bloody Xmas

Busta, did he give you the opportunity to wait 20mins for him to get there. He says that during your conversation (at 14:00) where you mentioned that you were 20/30 mins away he could of been there 20 mins after that?

When I sold my Impreza, I had a few service items left over (air/fuel filters spark plugs etc - and a rear diff)

I simply sent them (postage paid by me) to the first person who pm'd me - 100% free

These threads make me think it would be easier to simply bin them

One lad came to mine for my WRX bonnet scoop and I refused to let him have it when he turned up.

He came in a 22B.

All this measurement of time is on his behalf, after. He never told me on phone to wait etc. I just got told an an hour.
When I phoned him at 2pm, I'd finished what I was doing in Stockport ready to come to him.
When I phoned, he had forgot I was coming and said he would be home in an hour (now from that you can imagine, I was pretty annoyed) so I said I'll speak to you later via PM to sort out.

So he would be home in an hour and you were half hour from him....
why didn't you just stop and grab a coffee then have a slow ride to his. All you needed to do was kill a half hour and there wouldn't be an issue.
I'd of just driven to his place and played on my phone for half hour.
And if I thought he was playing silly buggers I'd of made sure I was at his when he got home.

If it was me selling it I'd of apologised and asked you to hang around for half hour while I made my way home. If you didn't want to then I'd of kept the deposit and told you to jog on.

I didn't know how far he was from sk3 he's in sk12 6 miles apart, I presumed it was close (hence me arranging to kill 2 birds in 1 go) he didnt ask me or tell me how far I was, he was in Liverpool at the time of call so I presumed he'd be a while (1 hour he said he'd be back) if he suggested that on phone then maybe I might of considered that. He just asked where I live to which I said huddersfield/wakefield, and then said he'd sent it via post to which I said I'll pm him later.
Like I said earlier, a decent appolagy would of made it sweet instead of replying like he has saying I was late etc etc and only after finding excuses for me to take part of the blame when he actually forgot, since he left at 12.50.

To be fair, if he had already gone for 12:50, which was just 10 mins before your arrival time, I'll blame him more. Although you should have texted him too, if you were gonna be late. Getting delayed with re-mapping of your car is no excuse. It's not hard to text with "sorry, gonna be late". At reading the exchange, it becomes apparent that the seller was on a child-like defensive for forgetting. He also forgot not to mention that he forgot. If he did, you would be to blame for arriving much later without even letting him know that you were gonna be late.

It's a lesson for both parties that if someone keeps saying "mate, mate", it doesn't mean they are nice and mature in their head. The argument sounds fairly childish. Poor show regardless of how well this seller has previously dealt with; with his buyers. What you must do in future is text people if you're gonna be late. Just because you're a paying party, it doesn't give you a right to expect your seller to hang around all day waiting for you. I won't hang around for more than 15 mins even for a pope, if he takes me for granted! The seller's lesson is that he needs to learn not to go on an irrational defensive.

Merry Christmas.

P.S.: If you texted him to let him know that you were gonna be late, then it's all his fault. Even then, I'd like to say Merry Christmas to him, for what it's worth.

To clarify, I say it's all his fault in above circumstance, but say if he couldn't wait too long due to other commitments regardless of the fact you texted him to say that you were gonna be late, he could have texted back to say that he couldn't wait too long due to other commitments, and then that would have been your fault.

But it is his fault in the scenario that took place, because he did one ten minutes before your due time. he thinks that he has the advantage because you were late anyway uninformed, but realistically he hasn't.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of you. Have a mince pie or something and chill.

Thank you!
That's what got me mad, with him being defensive and NOT actually realising he forgot but wasn't intrested in aknwledging that. More bothered about what time I phoned him.
Yes, I fully accept I should of text him if I was going to be late after 1pm (which I did appolagise for) but in reality, he still wouldn't of been home and forgot I was coming.

Turbohot is a lady, who's not paying attention now.

p.s I'm embarrassed to say but i read every last bit, you're not as to blame as him but if it was me I'd have been communicating during the day and may have tried a little harder to wait around for him to get back.
I think the biggest problem is that you expect the same standard of service as you would give and although I can identity with that, different people work on different levels. Just because his level may not be to the standard of yours doesn't mean he's a ****.

Oops

Maybe so, as I've never had a problem before. But I can only learn from that.
The main reason I reminded him night before is because I would be up early as I had a lot todo, then fly over to get car mapped and all attention to the mapper as we were doing it on the road, took 3 hours.
But agree that's no excuse. And I'm partly to blame for not texting him earlier in the morning to give him another reminder (maybe that would of reminded him) but I was busy. And Ive never had a problem before, (I travel quite often to buy things) I just didn't apreciated the fact of his response to it all without an opolagiy, manners go far with me.
And that's purley why I wanted to pull out of the sale regardless if it was for £10 intercooler.
I would of had time to wait if he suggested it, but not very long as I needed to get back to drop child off at mother in laws ready to go out booging
But as he was in Liverpool then there was no point in me waiting taking into account traffic, xmas shoppers etc.

And if his level of standard is not to my taste then I have the right not to deal with someone, which after it all, that's what I chose.

As you reminded him a night before, then it's even very worse of him to forget, and dash off to other business before your due arrival time. he didn't know that you were gonna be late, so he should have been there for your due arrival time, simple.

And I'm partly to blame for not texting him earlier in the morning to give him another reminder (maybe that would of reminded him) but I was busy.
To be honest, no. You are not to blame for not texting him AGAIN in the morning. Why should you have to text him again??? You had sent him a reminder a night before, and that should have been sufficient. You're not his secretary to keep reminding him of his appointments. Mine won't; not again and again.

You should have texted him again when you knew that you were getting delayed, and that's what you failed to do (may be you did? I don't know). But you see, this mistake of yours still has no bearing on the fact that he actually left for some other business before your due arrival time, and he had no idea that you were gonna be late. No wonder you were annoyed. Justified.

As I say, he might be a good one for other buyers, but with you, he failed his custom. Hopefully he will know not to get too relaxed with his customers, just because his business has been going smoothly with the majority. In such situations, turning the blame on to the victim party by bending the argument round and round in circles hardly covers the reality. One has to be consistent in business practice, and treat all customers equally. It doesn't matter whether they're buying a good worth 10p or 100 quid. It's a matter of principle, not a matter of how much that part was.
