No. 2x torques bit screws on the rear of the airbag holding that onto the wheel, few connections under that for the bag, big nut in the middle and it's all off.

Just make sure you completely disconnect the battery and once you've done that hold down the brake pedal to drain any residual power just to ensure the airbag can't fire by accident, which I'm glad to report shouldn't anyhow.

Awesome thanks bud.

I've just bought a 2005 STi and talking about airbags I should check if mine is part of the recall.

These DAMD wheels are special order I take it or only come around once now and again?

Widetrack? If you're intending to fit one to a non-widetrack blob you will need to get a widetrack STI airbag to suit. They don't take the earlier airbags.

Plenty of pics on this thread showing these with widetrack airbags fitted.

Just got myself a DAMD wheel that I intend to fit to my 2003 non-widetrack blob.

I realize I need to get the widetrack airbag unit to fit, but what about the clock spring? Does it need to be changed too?
I'm wondering whether the airbag connector will fit or not.

Where'd you get it mate? Second hand or from a trader? I'm after one myself, been waiting a while but they don't come up very often.

Imported an used one from Japan.
I believe I may have got an earlier revision though of some sort.

Looking at the pics posted here, the leather appears to be matte/dark grey on these DAMD wheels. Mine however is more on the shiny/plain black side, similar to the OEM wheels.
Another difference is that the top and bottom parts are texturized on mine instead of being smooth.

This:

Compared to this:

That's definately not down to wear, so I'm guessing there have been different revisions.

Could the shiny ness not be through usage maybe and products used to clean it maybe?

Looks very nice as they all do

This:

Looks very similar to mine (puchased in 2011) after 7 years of wear and tear.
When new..............

Being black it goes with the MY11 onwards trim of the Hatch and Saloon as against the earlier models grey or "off black"

Corrected: My DAMD wheel now looks a little bit the one you imported. They will go like that after a while, as leather will eventually polish up with use. Mine is an every day car and have used the DAMD wheel for 3 years now. Still amazing, wouldn't drive another Subaru without one!

I would say that the wheel you got has had a LOT of use. Either that or it's a fake.

Pics of mine after 3 years of constant use:

Oh I see, so it is just regular wear after all.

One question: the plastic cover that goes on the back of the steering wheel, does it also have to be off the Hawk/Facelift models or will the 2003 blobeye one (pre-widetrack) fit?

Do you have any pictures of the wheel fitted to a 2012 sti saloon?

Thanks,

Slightly smaller in diameter than OEM, better grip and feel.
