Got brave tonight and tried three little launches. Rear shafts stayed in one piece! Even with some moderate all wheel spin. I'll get tougher and see how they cope! Going into work on my hols to make some billet front shafts too. Just to be on the safe side.

Plastigauge is a simple tool to measure very small clearances - in this case, it's being employed to measure each of the 4 big-ends' journal-to-bearing clearances, to check whether they're in nominal spec.

This vid will help you understand how it works...

Thanks, weight is a very good friend of yours! Not so much a friend of mine, however this impreza is still a good bit lighter than my 1800kg golf that I ran 12.5's in.
Hoping to see a bit more poke with the 20g and the use of standalone ecu and fuel additives. It's going to be a long journey, but hopefully get it moving in the new year.

Yeh min is only 1160kg I run that at 1.1bar on a standard engine with Fmic and blitz nur spec oh an a z4 ecu so about 280hp ish eventually blew it up rebuilt it with a good mate now running just under 340bhp need to see what time it runs like this before go bigger turbo but it's definitely addictive the old 1/4 mile

Any links to vids of your golf

RE golf;
If you search on YouTube "james4moturbo" there's three vids of the heavy hector there.
Yeah straight line racing is good fun, especially with your road car, no one understands until they do it.

Hi Boosted , nice to see you putting that gauge photo in and the bottom end coming together, conrods certainly look like they can handle a 20G.

Thanks, yes happy with 0.002" clearance on all big ends, I need to order piston rings for my STI pistons, that's going to be the next hold up.
Bottom end minus pistons is built.

Must say I think he's got *****.

But its likely to be a pretty strong bottom end on the ACL bearings and those new rods / the Sti Pistons are probably the weakest link, Im willing to bet he's likeliest to see a ring / land issue before a big end , and according to the Plasigauge these are matched well to the crank. But even the pistons will do well as the 20g will flow a lot of volume at lower pressure the rest as always is up to the mapper to keep out of Det. The blocks been cleaned, the crank has not been machined , provided no debris is in the oil cooler and he's a dab hand with the torque wrench ,

I think its going to be just fine.

Thanks, there is no difference between NA/wrx crank and block. I bet if you cross reference part numbers they will be the same.
I did contemplate forged pistons but just can't justify the £500 cost.
If I break a piston then it's not the end of the world, I'll look into it then. But I'll not be pushing this engine that hard, 360 bhp ish, only bought the rods as used STI ones were £100 and I couldn't be certain of their condition.

Update, I have ordered brand new piston rings, should be here Wednesday. Then I can pop the pistons in.
Also cleaned the oilway plugs up on the wire brush grinder thing at work, so they can get further cleaning and then installed ASAP.
As with any engine build, cleanliness is the absolute key.
Oil pump and heads need stripped and cleaned/inspected too.
Then it won't be much more work to have the engine complete.

Nice work, coming along nicely now. Although wouldn't you rather have 340 - 350 on a 16G vs 360 on a 20g?

The 16G on my 2.1 is a complete spool monster.
