I think I know what my wife would prefer. I did offer to sell the house to fund an Enzo, but wardrobe space was tight
Bingo, never overstretch myself. I've always hated paying interest so always utilise interest free options, or cash is king as they say.

Hi LEO-RS, how's it going bud?
I've got another little motor for you to try and beat. You gave the GT-R a good try in Your TT-RS, so I thought I'd lower the stakes for you
Good to see you're still winding folk up, not seen you on the GT-R forum for a while though
PS we definitely need to get the Big Race sorted for next year, I'll get Bainsey on the case.

The A45 isn't something likely to be in my affordability bracket so haven't paid them any attention. One turned up at a cycle event I was helping out at on Sunday just passed and WOW! What an exhaust note. Any petrol head, no matter their financial standing would be hard pressed not to "get it". Very cool motors.

Suspension is slightly more forgiving in the CLA as well, I'd have to say the ride in the A45 is very good. I've heard people say is rock hard, well it's not. Try driving the GT-R not in comfort, then you'll know firm

Hey LEO-RS (C), I was down at Crail today. managed a 12.65 which was not bad as it was still damp. Got beat by a tuned Golf R (white) which did a 12.62. The RWD and FWD were all struggling, there was an E63 AMG which could only managed a 13, 4WD was a must today.

I'm in the process of getting my scoob sorted (500+), once that's done I'll start looking at tweaking the A45. Hopefully by the start of 2015 they'll have cracked the ECU, I can see me looking for around 450.
PS the tuned Golf R ended up doing a 12.15!
Standard S3 only managed 13.39

Hey Marc, Yeah I spotted your name when I was browsing the results page, 12.65, not a bad first attempt
There was a standard Golf R there running 12.70 aswell so the performance is pretty much identical to the A45 AMG like for like. Will be interesting to see what your car does when it's been fiddled with The tuned Golf R was running a revo tune and a best of 12.15 later on in the day, so it's nice my record is still intact.
Was a friend of mine in the E63 AMG, he has to feather it off the line at Crail as race start is a no go due to wheelspin. His best to date is a 12.2 but he only managed a 12.6 on Sunday so it must have been slippery. They're heavy old beasts and more suited for 100+ performance to be fair.
Reference the S3, was it a new one (8V) or old model (8p)? If new, I suspect it would have been an S3 with manual transmission and a dimwit driver, they 1/4 in 12.6 as standard with the DSG box and then 11.9 with a tuning box.. (I'm currently sitting 4th in the 2.0t class)

I am still to run mine stock yet as the 3 times I have ran it I have been limited to runs due to it being busy. Didn't want to waste the runs on a stock time..
Will take the box off next time I go and see what she does. Will more than likely head back to Pod in Jan/Feb and hope for that 11 sec run with some nice cool intake temps..
Look forward to seeing your progress when you start modding. FYI, I am in talks with a well known tuner in this country that now has software for the A/CLA45 so should be interesting. Will let you know more as I do.

Jees those new CLA's are a hideous car. Just reading the above mentioned last night and was behind one on the m25 today. It looks like the back end got too close to a fire and drooped down. Very odd design mess, with that droopy overhang, the rear lights and skinny tyres for the size.

Nice work on the A45's debut there mate. Bang on the money for what I would expect from a stock car. Seemed in line with what I would expect when comparing it to the stock Golf 7R and a Revo Stage 1 7R (with intake and seats removed) that ran. Terminal speeds showed around (107/8 (R), 111/12 (A45), & 113/14 (R).

The GTi was only a fraction behind the R in a big hatch track test; I think Auto Express did it.
The M135i beat both but was beaten by the giant killing Cupra 280 and the more powerful A45.
TBH I think a huge amount depends on the driver and conditions. The GTi punches well above its weight though. I prefer it to the R if I'm honest.

Money no object the A45 it would seem is the best but keep it simple on the spec sheet and you can't deny that the 135i is great value especially with that engine.
If I was to go shopping for one of them the 135i would probably be my first stop it's just the steering that keeps coming up but i suspect you would get used to it if even a problem to start with.

You do get used to the steering - it's at it's worse as really low speeds. But it really weights up at speed and it's very direct so you do soon get used to it.
Evo was fairly unanimous in it's preference: The only odd thing was the terrible 0-100 time (done on a gravelly surface, up a hill) - every other test gets 11s or less to 100 for the BM.

I think he's missing the point of the BMW in that vid, it's a big engined RWD car, it's supposed to be edgy and fun to drive, not necessarily the quickest way to get from point A to Point B but I suspect it has the biggest grin factor of the three and much more driver skill required to do so.
I think a lot of modern cars are getting a little too good at what they do, they have the very average ham fisted driver looking like a bit of a driving god as they disappear over the horizon more due to the talent of the car than the driver. I also think you'd have to be doing some pretty serious speed in the merc to start getting it sideways feeling on the edge and actually having some fun.
P.S just in case you didn't catch it on any of the other threads I've mentioned it, I wasted a new GTI on the drag strip a few weeks back in the wagon.
Just saying.

Can't belive I missed this thread
Been looking & very interested in the 45 AMG for purchase in new year
Looking at spec's starting around 38k moving up to night pack with splitter & rear wing I'm guessing around 42k , now I know this is worlds apart but for that money I'm also considering importing a ford F150 raptor with extended crew cab ,, fitting a Rouch or whipple supercharger is playing with my mind lately .
See what next year brings

Guess it keeps us all talking, all these facts and figures are a load of rubbish to a certain degree anyway. For most of us we'd never exploit the capabilities of these cars on the road anyway. They're all amazing and I'm just grateful manufacturers are making stuff like this still. Five years ago I'd never imagine there'd be all this choice for incredible 'normal' performance cars, thought we'd all be deciding which 1.0 Eco turbo hatch would be king.
For peasants like myself I just get to wonder which one's going to be mine in 5 years time when I can afford it second hand after you boys have had your fun.
