Get the car you want and enjoy it or spend your whole life worrying about how much it may cost and telling yourself you'll buy it next year... I know which I prefer!

We may even agree that AMGs are the best cars in the world

On average, a new car will be worth just 40% of its new value after just three years. So your 40K merc will return you in the region of 16 grand after just 36 months of motoring. That to me is utter madness, and I'm far from 'hard up'.

That really depends on what kind of car you are talking about and at what point in its life cycle. Perhaps that is the case for Fords, Vauxhalls etc

However you try and buy a year old M car, AMG (apart from S class type versions), Porsche etc one year after a brand new model release and it may only be a few £k less than brand new.

I can bet you that a second hand new version M3 in a years time from a dealer will be a prime example of this.

So you are basically talking about 'non premium brands/models' or premium brands/models at the very end of their model cycle.

Damn I must be a proper retard.

F**k it, we love cars/vans and they give us huge amounts of pleasure.

Each to their own; the thought of endlessly obsessing about bloody houses bores me to death but seems to make our entire nation feel artificially happy.
If you had got your car's on drip you could have a Ferrari

But I agree, spend somebody else's money, pay it back at a higher rate, then lose a load more when they eventually let go of your *****. But just remember, you will be much happier than people like me that save and pay cash, I have so much regret .

It's funny how some people find happiness by bending over for the bank manager.

Look, joking aside, I was in hospital for a year and nearly died, if it makes you happy then enjoy, and don't forget to add sound to your vids so I can have a listen to the noise.

We never but cars with loans; been there, done that, never again. If I can't afford to buy a car outright, I can't afford it full stop.
I wish more people thought the same.

I'm guessing tittleled is hooning his head off and cannot stop!

Back in '98 when I bought my 'dream car' - an Integrale Evo - I drove/hooned about all weekend from that Friday night to Sunday night. Only stopping at home for sustenance and bed. Did £374 in petrol.

Devil, I simply meant cannot stop driving his new toy. Not cannot stop the car.

If that's what you was getting at?

Just an example, brand new basic e90 M3 was circa £55000. One year old examples can be picked up from around 40K now.

Even expensive prestige models lose huge amounts in very little time. In fact, the cars that lose the least are cheaper, more economical models.

End of the day it's the fellas money, hope you're enjoying your new car fella. I'd imagine you are :-)

Yeah, it was a bit embarrassing actually, as I 'earnt a bit of a name for myself' with the Braintree Massif, at the time lol

One 'session', I hooned so hard in it that I caused the NSF - 'the roundabout tyre' - to literally wilt under the strain. All air had escaped from it, but it wasn't punctured.

By Christ, some people on here would have an apoplexy if they knew how much I'm about to spend each month on an M3 lease

I mean, I won't even own it after 3 years.....what a waste....blah blah blah.

On the other hand, my Boxster is rising nicely in value every month - if it carries on at the current rate in 12 months time it'll be worth more than I paid for it 3 years ago

Zip, where is a good place to get an M3 lease? As I'm tempted to just buy a nice used one.

I got a moped when I was 16 and did 1000 miles in the first week, mind you it only cost £2 to fill the tank.

My favourite thing is the new car smell, my favourite was a Volvo S60 I had with leather seats, for some reason the leather smell in Volvo's does it for me.

Oh and the tyre's, you've got to be quick with that one, by the time you get home there all dirty.

Anything ive forgotten.

Our van is doing similar although it's not quite so much fun to drive.

So will it be M3, Boxster and pickup in the fleet?

Yea a new car's smell is special. I've found myself religiously cleaning the flies off the front of mine after every trip, i've never done that before. I've already detailed it, yet i'm going to clean it again at the weekend even though its still minty clean

It depends really. The richest person that I know well buys most of his cars on 'finance'.

Personally I buy mine cash but don't assume that everybody who uses finance to purchase a car doesn't have the cash.

When I get a new car the first thing I like to do is take all the stickers off that have the advertising from the dealer on. If you're really cheeky you can ask the dealer to put them in the bin.

I sorted the deal last month and nearly all the 'cheap' 3 year deals have been pulled as we're now into the 3rd quarter - the lease co's can't now get the big discount BMW were giving them last month.

Gone with Gogreen Leasing - I went with them so I'd feel less guilty about my carbon footprint

No, the L200 went 10 months ago - bought a new Transit Connect for work.
Have a Forester as well, for the $hitty weather/airport/tip/kids etc.

Back to the OP - hope you're enjoying the car, they do sound good.
I was tempted, but for me the interior didn't cut the mustard.

Mate, actually read my post please. The E90 M3 is a prime example of what I was talking about.

A one year old E90 M3 was a run out model. Nobody would have actually paid £55k for it, there would have been large discounts for the asking as the brand new model was about to be released.

It wouldn't surprise me if you could have walked into a BMW garage a year ago and negotiated £10k off the price of a new M3.

END OF MODEL CYCLE

I hear what you're saying but the A45 AMG can be had for 35k already,38k new but most likely has a few extras that puts it at about 40k, only done a few thousand.
