Hi

Went to replace my brake hoses today but the ends of the brake pipes are so corroded that if I tried to undo them they would break. How much would it cost to get all the pipes changed on my hawkeye?

Funnily enough I'm in the same boat. I attempted to change mine too today even with a soak of wd40 they still wouldn't budge. I stopped in fear of rounding off the head so my braided lines are not fitted.

Are you guys using the proper tool ?
As in a flare nut wrench. I fitted braided hoses on mine yesterday and the originals had been on there for 16yrs ! I did start soaking the day before. The wrench gets a much better purchase on the nut and will take a lot of force.
If you were using the proper tool then ignore me..

I haven't even attempted it yet was looking at the connection and because of the state of it wasn't even going to attempt it. What size of flare nut should it be?

10mm was the size of mine and I suspect same on yours.

Yes, no problem..I did think I was going to snap them off but they moved !
The proper spanner is a 6 pointer so it really does fit the nut properly.

So was it simply undo one at a time and replace. Then top up fluid after? Which set did you buy of the spanners?

I had all my calipers refurbished by Godspeed ( amazing job !) so just drained the whole system and did the hoses at the same time.
The only mistake I made was to put the rear calipers back on the wrong sides so the bleed nipple was on the bottom and not the top. This meant i had a soft pedal after bleeding. A quick call to Ben at Godspeed for advise put me straight and 10 minutes later, all was sorted.
I did use one of those one way bleed kits from Halfords for 4.99 and that worked a treat and made the process much quicker and a one man job once the car was up on axle stands..
