or I bring in calipers and they would refurb them at their usual rate
I shud have pushed the issue on rust spots on pistons which I noticed on third stripdown, but taking car off road to resolve issue and to drive from Swansea to bridgend back n fore at that stage of the game was just a step too far ( cud have just been bad batch of stainless )
his counter manner was very friendly but without solutions ? school is still out on him at mo
I 'm just saying that do yer homework , I cud be one in thousand but then again I might not be

I can guarantee you 100 % our pistons do NOT rust , they are stainless steel , and stainless steel does not rust.
If you have rust marks it will be stains from rust from the bores of the calipers , rusty bores will make the pistons stick , if you don't believe me bring them down , and I will strip the calipers and clean the stains off the pistons to prove it .

The top lip of the caliper bore rusting will be your problem , which can be fixed by cleaning it off , better to bead blast them as you can guarantee you will get all the rust out.

The only time we see this issue , is either the dust boots have become dislodged , or if people are doing it themselves and fitting our supplied pistons and seals , is they don't clean the caliper bores properly and the rust build up is left

Cheers Ian

shame u weren't quite so vocal when I was in your shop and having problems its
very easy to say what u want to on the forum, admittedly the rust spots only appeared on third stripdown 12 -18 months later , but by that time I had lost faith in your customer aftercare and product,i was that fed up I gave away £100 of s/s pistons as returns on re-condition units by pagid, as I stated earlier.
the calipers were cleaned with solvent ,then with wet n dry paper then in ultrasonic bath , and thoroughly dried and were spotless before assembly
the few rust spots were on the inside lip of the piston ,not on outer lip which is in contact with bore
yes the dust boots were dislodged as they were in my opinion and another time served mechanics opinion of poor fit when assembled, but boots in place or not they would still have been open to the elements ,even with a smear of grease on them.
if you consider bead blasting fairly vital then possibly selling s/s piston kits as a diy option isn't really fair on the customer without warning them prior to purchase ,whilst we took every precaution we could ,and within the scope of the home mechanic as far as cleanliness is concerned, we will never achieve the level you will at your workshop
I agree with you stainless does not rust, nobody was more surprised than me and the other mechanic so without the offending pistons available for analysis we will never know, which is my fault,i now wish I had pushed the issue with yourselves
im not trying to 'do a hatchet job' on your company, but im just stating what we found, no ill feeling intended ,regards chris

You have only bought the parts from us , i would have given you advise on what to do , tips on fitting them , what more customer service do you want , if we had done the full job , it would have been done properly and would have lasted , the only time we have seen calipers back with issues after we had reconditioned them , is either the outer dust seals have broken up from being burnt doing track days , or the boots have become dislodged , usually by someone changing pads , they don't come off otherwise.
Once the dust seals become un clipped , or are damaged from heat , the damp will get into the piston bore and cause it to rust , and will end up sticking.

You saying the seals don't fit properly , that's not true as we have been selling and fitting the same seals for years , the only time the outer boots don't stay in place is when you have put too much grease on the Pistons when fitting them into the calipers , and you get grease on the lip where the seal clips on , or inside the boot , this needs to be completely free of grease , otherwise they will never stay in place , which is what has happened with you , we've explained this to customers before , and once they cleaned the grease of the lip where the seal fits , and off the inside of the seals , they fit on , and stay on.
It sounds to me as that's your issue , you're cleaning the calipers , and getting the rust off with wet and dry , if this wasn't done properly then the Pistons wouldn't go in easily , but your outer boots didn't stay in place , which is causing the bores to rust.

Again , our Pistons do not rust , we have had calipers in from 4 years ago recently for a re seal , once the Pistons were cleaned , they were like brand new , if there was rust on any of your Pistons , it would have been staining from the calipers .
