I think on average the Hatchback STi exhaust systems tend to be 30-50% more expensive than the classic and newage versions.

A few finishing touches, to carry on keeping with the OE look with some minor styling tweaks where necessary I've ordered the following:
Perrin 'Fat' Shift **** in black
Perrin 'Stubby' Aerial
The short aerial will help eliminate the car looking like it's a full sized RC car, the factory item looks bloody awful in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong most of the Perrin range isn't exactly cheap but you do get good quality, I would love their FMIC but at around £1400 it would just make too much of a dent in my budget.

The Importance Of Regular Oil Changes...
Well today the engine was removed from the car, and after we drained the oil Ryan suggested that we filter the oil and see what was found. As the engine was being removed in order to be sent off for a rebuild I personally didn't see much point but as it was easy to do we went ahead.
Now the engine wasn't running like a dog, using oil greatly (although it does use some but given the mileage and it's a factory built 2.5 that is not unheard of) or smoking/noisy you would expect the oil to be fairly clean of metal debris.
What we found was quite startling really given what I expected to see and that was very little, but actually in the base of the filter cone although it cannot be seen there was quite a lot of metal fragments which had not been trapped by the oil filter. The filter cone we used filters to 190 microns which I know is pretty fine but even so all these metal fragments have been through the engine thousands of times on their journey around the oil system.
Luckily I am in a position where I always planned to get a forged CDB engine rebuild done before any engine failure took place, I would be extremely cheesed off if it had been forced onto me like has happened to so many others.

I've fallen in to temptation and ordered something that I've really wanted since I first saw one, they look far nicer than the factory item plus they are slightly smaller as well.
I ordered it from Sumo Power who has just become AA's on here again, they did me a good deal and it saves all the messing around with import duty and clearance fees when the delivery arrives.

Upon removal of the engine we set about stripping it down to a point where it's just about ready to be sent away for it's rebuild.
The clutch was found to be just about worn out, it wasn't too far away from the friction disc material being down to the rivets and as an uprated clutch is being fitted this was duly thrown in the bin.
The flywheel is in good condition and will just be refaced to make sure that the new clutch has a good clean surface to mate against, I am not a big fan of lightened flywheels as they can give a very harsh drivetrain engagement.
All the radiator, coolant, auxillary and breather hoses are going away to Scoobyworx for them to manufacture their own silicone versions of, the good thing being that I get a set in red FOC.
So the next step is to remove a few final things from the engine then it is off to AS Performance for it's rebuild.

It does make a lot of sense to send it to Alyn as he carries out the CDB conversion anyway, may as well keep it all with the one engine builder.

So the work on the car is ongoing, I have had a few more parts arrive to say the least since I last posted.
Rear Bumper Foglamps
These will move the rear fog lamps to the current rear reflector position allowing me to utilise the existing fog lamp as a second reverse lamp.
'Gold' Magnetic Sump Plug
Reputed to be the world's best magnetic sump plug and having seen the online demonstration video I would tend to agree, should help keep the fresh engine build at it's best and hold onto any of the inevitable swarf that a freshly built engine will generate.
Genuine Subaru Coilpack
After finding that some idiot had previously broken the plug connector on the coil pack, and then 'repaired it' by the use of a cable tie to hold the HT lead into the coil pack so I had to order a new coil pack.
Genuine Subaru Exhaust Gaskets
I ordered these from Japan as they worked out at less than half the price even from ICP, great price even with the shipping costs and they arrived in about 5 days as well.
I did have to order some spurious 3" gaskets for the flanges as Subaru don't have a 3" gasket but I did order some top quality gaskets, these have a built in flame ring unlike a lot of cheaper gaskets which are just fibre and can be prone to leaking.
SWRD 3 Port Boost Solenoid
A top quality 3 port boost control solenoid from ScoobyWorx, these are made by Pierburg and are exactly the same as the solenoid used by Prodrive as part of the PPP.
These are 'plug and play' and come with an adaptor loom.
A few problems have been encountered when trying to remove the dual AVCS camshaft gears which have required the ordering of some special tools, these are en route and I would rather delay and wait rather than risk damaging the gears.
As the gears still need to be refiitted once the engine is being rebuilt better to show some restraint now rather than outright butchery which I have been the victim of with a previous engine build.

A 'few' other parts have been sourced this week as well - namely the parts required to carry out the 'facelift' of the bumper etc to the MY11 cars.
I just prefer the front end of the later cars, my thought process is that as the front bumper is being painted anyway then why not just bite the bullet now rather than regret it later?
So I ordered the parts with Keith Price Garages and picked them up yesterday, I did manage to screw them down on the pricing. As the trims and inserts are colour coded Justin @ KPG mixed and matched the part numbers to get the lowest possible prices.
The MY11 onwards cars are not available in WR blue in the UK so as I have to get the items repainted the current colour does not matter to me.
The MY08 Hatchback Front End
The MY11 Saloon Front End
Thanks to Rob84 - Rob Ostle for the part number list and for answering my questions as well, much appreciated.
So very shortly I will have an STi front bumper, fog lamp conversion kit, inner wheel arch liners and Zunsoport lower grille for sale.
Oh and my replacement top mount intercooler is under way with AH Fabrications, the core has been ordered and it will see the engine way past 500bhp which is pretty impressive as I didn't want to go down the front mount route.

Liking it ty.
Seems you've had a lot more luck dealing with Kp's than I have, never got back to me on a few parts I enquired about a few months back, and failed to get an alternator belt for me last week because the "import computer parts list" was down, even though they had various types of belts on the shelf.
Shame I wont use them again seeing as they're only twenty mins away.

Thanks Kev the money tree is starting to get bare now but hopefully she'll grow back soon.
