Default Top mount question

Are they supposed to be free movement? As in spin all the way around or are they just supposed to have a little side to side movement? Putting mine back together and can't decide if they're right or not. Also should I grease under the dust cap where the nut is?
Cheers

Ash

Recently changed my shocks all round
Spin round-yes they did
Side to side - my genuine top mounts didn't do side to side movement at all
Hope that helps mate

They should spin around really easily.
Your only clamping on the central 24mm od of the bearing, leaving it free to rotate.
Have you got the cone-shaped washers up the the right way? Cone side up.
Otherwise, the bearings have failed.

yes the cones are the right way up - ill take them apart again this weekend an see how they are - maybe the orange bits underneath are at the wrong angle? they came apart fine so no idea about the bearings (maybe i have tightened up the nut onto too much of the bearing?

cheers for the input guys

The cone washer stops the orange top perch contacting the bearing.

Central top mount nut should be 49N/m.
