Hi guys, Is there some tutorial for GPS car Tracking devices?

Looking to get something, maybe in the £50 budget. And I don't know which one to get. Are they all needing pre-paid sims ? any brands to avoid? and which one would be the best one, even if is over the £50 budget.

it is a bit of necessity when you spent 5k in your car and live in a bad neighborhood...(+ comp insurance value is declared at 1.3k only)

that is a bit way to much, I saw is 279 + subscription.

I was looking at these stuff..anyone having experience with them ?

On both my previous cars purchased with trackers already installed i never renewed the subscription as the subscription was circa £120 per year and the insurance saving was only £65 per year plus im not sure i would want it back if some little ******* had ragged the **** of it.

yeh i always figured the insurance company would just make a deal with the tracker company as its activated immediately and they probably have it listed somewhere on an insurance database as having one fitted so would end up getting it back anyway lol.

Some of the ebay £30 PAYG ones work great.

They can also be used as a GSM phone dialler (hooked up to your car alarm to call you if triggered) and a remote engine cut so you can dial in and cut the engine if someone drives off in it.

Considering any tracker can easily be blocked whilst they search for it you don't always get more for paying more.

Hi Bigtel. Do you mean a physical search and cut it out? or you mean they search for it with a device, which will cut off the signal.

And to the guys above saying "I don't want my car back once stolen" I wish you all never to be in that situation. I had sold a motor bike to my friend 2 weeks ago, across the street only, and within 2 nights they nicked it off. Police doesn't give a ****. They didn't even come out to start asking questions from the neighbours etc. Nor I know if they would check any CCTV's in the area looking for a van or something at around that time. And Insurance payout? sure = within 3 months...

I will probably buy that £60 one, i postet link above. Still waiting for someone who actually had one of those ebay ones installed, doesn't matter if the 20-30 ones or more expensive. I just want to know how they find it.

They can use a cheap jammer in/around the car to buy them time to locate it and rip it out.

I.e. money wasted on the tracker.

I must also point out spending 5k on upgrades to a car but
only insuring it for £1300 when you live in a rough/dodgy
area has to be the height of silliness.

you don't know the whole story. I bought it for 1.1k only, and it was supposed to be good. and then all the usual bad bits started going, clutch, head-gasket, gearbox. done that then since it was in bits i got some new injectors and other bits. this is why i ended up spending so much and insure it so low. because initially was only that.

Not to mention. Pay more for insurance for what? i had someone drive into my mercedes 2 months ago, and still waiting for the insurance to fix my car because the third party won't send his declaration of the accident. So if you ask me how i see insurance = SOMETHING YOU PAY SO YOU DON'T GET STOPPED BY POLICE. That's all.

I`ll go for that tracking device from ebay, and probably I will hide it into a custom made box so nobody can break into it. Maybe some 5 mm thick welded box all round if signal's okay out of it.

I find the more security you can put on a car the better,i love to hear comments like "its a waste of time as they have jammers or they can find where its hidden" people can break in to locks does it mean that you don't put a lock on your house front door?think about it!!!.The more security you have the more a thief has to work to get it,thiefs are lazy ****'s that's why they steal,so the more layer's of security you have the better,to the OP put as much security on your car as what make's you sleep better at night and make things as hard as you can for the thieving barstewards.SJ.

And this is where spending a bit more money helps. The more expensive ones are monitored (by a computer) and flag up an alarm if the signal is disrupted for any reason.

For people to say trackers are a waste of time and that it's only worth to be put on a Lamborghini etc is wrong, like someone has said, when you've spent so much on upgrades and an average decent scoobys value is around 5k it's definitely worth it,

I know a car isn't the same once a low life thief has has its hands on it but I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of being able to steal the car and make money of the parts etc. I'd rather it be found and taken off them at least.

Also insurance never pay you what the car is really worth, I had a civic few years ago that had a sale market of 2.5-3k, A drunk drove into the car outside my house and wrote it off and all insurance offered me was something daft like 600 quid.

I have fitted one of these ebay ones.
Iv got to say they aint to bad. if you have the time to install it right and hide it good.
Iv not installed fuel cutoff yet as i have read there have been a few problems with other people doing it. going to look into more.

I've been considering one of these sim card based trackers for mine. I'd like one that I can hardwire in so I dont have to worry about batteries and that ideally has an app for tracking.

If anyone has any recommendations please let me know as the prices seem to range considerably.
