Default dodgy *******

hi everyone ,
ive been waiting well over a year to get my engine re-built by a specialist .
that year has felt like ten ! but ive been patient and saved up all my pennys
so i went to see this subaru specialist in person for a chat about my options and a price . he quoted me 2,500 for a forged build and 3,000 for a stroker build . i had a long hard think and decided to go with the forged build . he said ill have to wait 7 weeks until he can fit me in , as he has to move location and have a holiday . fair enough , so i gave him an extra week and waited 8 ! i phoned him up and he tells me to ring him in another week as he is sooo busy ! i then phoned him again after that week and he tells me he can pick it up one evening and wants cash upfront for the parts ! i asked how much? so i can draw out the money and he said 1,500 . i then double checked that it was 2,500 for the re-build which he had already quoted me , but he now sais its 3,000 !!! i told him what he quoted me in the past and he txt me back sayin " parts prices has gone up a bit " !!!! so the parts have gone up 500 pounds in 7 weeks !!!!! really pissed off with him as he is blatently trying to mug me off ! and i just want my car back now if anyone wants to know the company responsible pm me and ill gladly tell you

Not exactly fair mate The best thing would be to go elsewhere, it's your hard earned at the end of the day. If he / they are willing to deal like this before you've parted with money, who knows what they'll be like after!

If you have the agreed price in writing then you have a contract with him for that amount, if he wished to change the contract then he has to agree the changes up front.

If you spent that sort of money without anything in writing then the following applies - A fool and their money are easily parted. and you do not have a leg to stand on.

Have you got the quote in writing? Not a text or verbal agreement but a written quote from the person/company???

One of the oldest tricks in the book is to quote low to win the work then charge more when it comes to pay up. Heathrow Engine Centre being one of the biggest offenders.

ALWAYS get a written quote listing exactly what is being done (parts and labour) it protects both parties and anyone unwilling to do this should be avoided like the pox!

Which is what you should have done in the first place!

Engine builds too importnat to be decided by proximity to specialists!

What spec are you going for?

very true and as mentioned maybe it was a blessing in diguise ?
i really want it to be a reliable everyday car so going for sti internalls .
to be honest i have no plans to push it further than 350 tops ! when i eventually get bored "which is inevitable " i may get a classic

Think you have your prices confused.... For a forged build his prices were always £3000 depending on parts

You won't go wrong with API mate, I had mine rebuilt in June 2007 and it's still going strong.
After phoning various other places and weighing up my options I'm glad to say I chose wisely.

The original Poster is NOT quoting API prices in his original Post.

He has now chosen to go to API

I Have to say initial d that i was in the said mechanics workshop today having my forged engine put in when i belive it was you that phoned ...

i know this Engine builder very well as do a lot of people and i also know that 2500 is not the right price and it indeed £3 k

Now im not going to get involved but this mechanic is no cowboy and is a highly reccomended and respected engine builder .
to date in 5 years not any one of his engines have gone bang and he has a long waiting list for builds .

i had to wait 3 months for mine and i will also say that it has been worth the wait .

He runs a near 700bhp car and is also building one of englands top mappers engines as we speak .

your views your view

im just purely adding mine

dont get me wrong mate he obviously knows his way round a scooby , im not saying he doesnt ! but i WAS quoted 2.5k now its 3k there is not much communication , it almost feels like i have to chase him up all the time ! after talking with dave at api for half hour i know EXACTLY how much im paying and exactly what he is doing i wasnt even told what pistons i was having fitted by the other bloke ! just how much cash he wanted to get them ! just imo not good people skills ! as they say " trust your gut feeling " 3grand is alot of money to me and i want to feel confident who i give it to . and i didnt get that feeling with him thats all.

For STi internals paying £2.5k is too much in my view.
Forged build is way to go,yeah i know is £500 difference, but shop around if you find better deal with same specs.

I actually got quoted 5 months ago £3k for a forged build for my car, which was the same time you asked for your quote as i remember talking to you about it.

I hope I'm not giving anything away by saying that it's not Rich at FB

It's difficult to name and shame especially where businesses are concerned but with threads like this people can read something into it and putting 2 & 2 together can get 5 and pick the wrong tuner responsible

Speak to the original poster before jumping to conclusions and they will clear it up

Good luck getting it sorted mate Sounds like you've got a bullet proof motor in the making Just don't go mad because it gets expensive lmao
