Default Cat-D STI... Genuine?.

Hi ya guys - first post lol.

Right seen a Cat D STI somewhere near me (website below). Now I have emailed the dealer as to confirm whether or not it is a STI & not a WRX made to look like one. He has said its 100% STI & is/was registered on V-Car (or something like that).

Car Dealership

Right I have got an insurance quote & it comes up as a 2004 WRX (225) & not STI. Also checked with DVLA & it comes up with CO2 Emissions 219g/km. Is that correct?.:

As I don't know much about the differences are between the WRX & STI. Is there something to look for even if someone has changed it to look like a STI?.

If someone wants to check the reg out its "YF04 ZND".

Nice forum by the way ...

If it's not an STI then someone's gone to alot of trouble.

The UK 2004 STI has a 6 speed box... the WRX (I think) was still a 5 speed?

STi should have emissions around 299g/KM.

As said, the STi has a 6 speed box, but so does the import WRX.

I would guess that it was a WRX in a previous life.. Take someone who knows what they are looking at..

That reg comes up as being a WRX on Subaru UKs records. It also is a WRX on VOSA, i'd leave well alone unless they have a good explination.

Yes I thought the Emissions was abit low. Like I said I did email the dealer yesterday and he did say it was a UK car & 100% STI. TBH I went with my father last night to try and found the place & went down the road and couldn't found a "CCMotors" anyway on that road???.

I emailed the dealer as to where abouts it is & haven't had received a reply. I think all this sounds abit funny imho.

Mate.
Possibly a knock off or ringer. You've done the best thing and done your research first and by asking members on s/n.
Walk away and dont waste your phone bill.Remember,if it turns out to be stolen, you will lose your car and money.
Theres plenty of decent scoobys out there...

For sure mention your reason for not buying to dealer, not all of them are bad and they may have bought it unwittingly. Wait a few days and see if they update their website to see how honest they really are

Right also posted on the Sheffield Forum: Sheffield Forum - Has anybody bought a car from CCMotors - Darnall?

& the dealer hasn't changed his sign from "Trade Valley Center" - "CCMotors", which is why I couldn't found the garage, but it still doesn't explain why it comes up as a WRX though?.

TBH I don't know wheather to go down anyway and ask why?, then get the RAC to check it over before I go any further?.

Do you think I should just leave it now or go down and have a look?.

You could but there are enough warning bells ringing already

During this present times here should be plenty of STi's about which aren't "Cat D" and potential problems although at that price will need to be looking at 2002/2003 STi's

you may also find a "Subaru" garage/Dealer are expensive but have good warranty's......"backstreet" Dealer warranty's "may not worth the Paper......" so take care....... personaly i'd consider a Private purchase equal to a "backstreet" Dealer.

If you look at quite a few you'll soon spot the "Private seller" who's and "Enthusiast" and the one who's "on the make" or "Trash it and about to fall apart"

just remember Subaru's are "generally"

1) expensive Buy
2) expensive Run
3) expensive Maintain
4) Very expensive to repair
5) Worthless when you come to sell

I've owned 4 and great fun so welcome to the minefield

IMHO IIRC

Tony

I thought I might as well do a check on mycarcheck.com anyway. Just out of curiosity really. Also emailed the dealer for the Vin Number lol (although I don't know if they are aloud to tell me though?).

First Half:

Rest of it:

I'll think I will leave it now tbh.
