Guy at work has a Pug 307 with locking nuts on the front but no key/adaptor thingy. The tyres need changing but obviously he can't get them off.. Local dealer is quoting 2 hours labour...

Is there any way other than drilling?

Let the dealer do it... at least this way, any damage to bearings, wheels will be covered by them...

When I was working in the garage I bought a gator grip style socket. The socket had a solid outer ring with a set of hardened steel spring loaded pins in the centre that adapted themselves to the shape of the wheel nut but whatever you do, dont use a buzz gun, use it manually!

At some body shops they have a set of sockets which screw onto the locking nut and when they can't screw on any more the locking nut starts to undo cos the tool has a reversed threded.

An old 3/4 socket and a hammer, knock the socket on and undo with a rachet, took me 5 minutes to remove all of mine!!!!!

On my last car i had no key so a local tyre fitter took them all of in ten mins tops with a socket and hammer. Cost me a fiver.

Braying an oversize socket over them and undoing with ratchet always works for me (only on my own wheels tho)!

large pair of 'mole' grips to grab the nut and then tap grips with hammer - easy-peasy!!

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of just creaming a big 'ol socket on it - specially as it isn't my car!

same just used a 3/4 socket wacked it on not a bother a few min's for the lot

what you need is a snap-on bolt extactor socket it has angled teeth in side and the more pressure you put on to get the bolt out the more the teeth grip it

Exactly why my local tyre fitter says locking wheel nuts are a waste of cash.
Thieve's can remove them in minutes.

Do it with a socket mate...
did it on mine a couple of weeks ago....
i wanted to put on the EBC discs and pads on the front and back..
the locking wheel nuts were the crappy pin ones that were on it when i bought it...
changed the front o/s in about 20mins
come to do the front n/s and the pins just bent,tried for about an hour to do something with it to no avail....
in the end i took off the locking nut off the o/s and put it all back to standard..
tried to get another locking nut but as they were aftermarket couldn't source one...so i used an old socket ( just thrown it away as well as i thought i wouldn't need it again )
only takes a few minutes to do all 4..just take care thats all..an watch those alloys
new discs and pads are on the car now and i invested in some McGuard locking wheel nuts...much better quality and design...

hammer and punch had mine off in 10 mins, agree they are not hard to get off without the socket but harder than normal wheel nuts which is the point..make it as hard for the scum as we can

Surly the dealer could supply a new licking wheel nut if there standard pug wheel locks..... MG did this for my dad for abot £7!!
