Red face

Keith Michaels want to increase my premium from a grand to over £1,600 - age 39, 8 yrs ncb, MY 95 standard WRX, no mods etc, saying that no-one wants to insure imports anymore as they're hassle.

Any alternatives/suggestions out there (apart from move/get another car etc)?

Checkout the insurance section. Tesco's currently offering the best deals - did the biz for me.

Greenlight reckon they've "run out" of policies for imports unfortunately!

Try Direct Line - no joke.
They've given me a superb quote 2 years running for my WRX 1993, with mods, despite having a claim which the assessor was very interested in when checking the car over last year.
Cheaper and seemingly much better than the others offered

I phoned absolutely everyone reccommended on here inc. greenlight, osbourne, Adrian F(l)ux etc.

In the end, my local broker came up cheapest at a grand (99Sti Type RA, insured for a highly optimistic 22k!) with a £200 excess and no Tracker requirement (don'tt want it back if it gets stolen/thrashed!)

Worth trying, Moreland Jones Insurance at Whitstable (01227) 264364

Still pi55ed off at £1000 tho, they ARE taking the michael aren't they!

Cheapest place for the last 18 months for me has been barclays, mod friendly up to 10% power increase and very import friendly, unlike tesco who refused to quote on my sti5 on the basis its an import.........

so how did you get yours through them?

Juzz - mine is a MY01 WRX. I'm 36 got 6pts wife has 3pts and a claim. Full no claims. £750. Jap imports will be more but give Tesco a call. They've done the biz for a mate too.
Doh!!! Didnt read the thread properly, Tesco good for UK spec cars no knowledge if they do Jap imports. Sorry.

Thanks for those - tried Tesco but they wanted £1500 and a tracker fitting - given that the cover ran out midnight last night I had to get something done asaap. Admiral messed me around on the phone without actually coming up with a quote then transferred me to Hyperformance who quoted £2000!
Heard an ad on radio for elephant.co.uk - got cover at £1250!! They say they're targeting London for business (our postcode seems to send premiums off the richter scale for all types of insurance) hence the competitive price which includes the girlfriend, business mileage etc and is fully comp, £350 excess.
Well worth a try......cheers all

If you are still looking for a quote try A-Plan 0845 071 1234

They insure Type R /RA /WRX /STi the lot . There are quite a few guys I know who are insured with them including my RA.

Tesco quoted me £1000, Admiral wouldnt quote even though I had been with them for 5 years .
