Default Solid brake pedal

I was driving to Tesco for lunch, drove there, no issues. Started car on the way home and drove normally, the road opened up so I gave it some boost, just as I put my foot down a rabbit ran out into the road so put my brakes on, however my brake pedal was as solid as a solid thing and I couldn't depress it as easy as normal.

Seconds later my pedal depressed again as usual.

is this normal ? If so what was going on?

I'm not very clued up with things like this, when I say things, I mean cars.

Possibly a stuck one way valve or a split in a hose between manifold and servo. Or the worst scenario servo itself.

Would that mean I need a new servo? How easy are they to fit?

No, it means you should have kept the original hose fitted to the brake servo.

either refit the original hose or source a one way valve, ensuring this new hose doesn't collapse under high vacuum (I.e fancy coloured silicone stuff from a random eBay seller).

I made this mistake. Luckily I had kept the original pipe with one way valve. Steve.

I had exactly this problem, as everyone is saying it's the one way valve is damaged. A new hose with valve in is about £26 from Subaru, leave it as original oem don't transplant it into an aftermarket hose.

The kit I got wasn't off ebay, as they are usually terrible.

I also didn't fit it as I'm not technically minded enough and wouldn't trust myself, my mechanic is coming Thursday to have a look.

Just spoke to mechanic and they didn't change the servo pipe - could the valve be broken anyway and requires replacement?

easiest way to check that hose is to open your bonnet and put your hand on the 1 way valve and just check its there.

My mechanic spoke to Subaru who said my 2005 sti UK doesn't have a one way valve? This correct?

If so that doesn't solve the brake issue!

to test your servo is working properly pump the brake pedal till it goes hard then start the car if your pedal drops a little bit then its fine as for pedal going hard while braking hard i would look at your abs
