Opinions on 08 STI hatch over New Age?
How do the hatches drive vs wide track new age cars? I think I might buy one rather than the new age simply due to never having had the hatch and also being keen to get the cruise control etc.
Might sound daft, but trips to the 'Ring etc. Would be an easier journey!

A 2008-10 hatch running a set of coilovers is a great all-rounder. On the standard setup they are a little bouncy imo.
The biggest issue with these cars is the 2.5 engine, they do have a reputation for going bang.

I've moved onto an sti hatch this year and find it soooo much easier to use day to day than my old Newage was. Having kids (twins) and a puppy, the hatch covers all my needs as a superb all rounder. I also like the fact they aren't seen around half as much as the older cars.
As its been covered a million times, the standard engine is something I couldn't live with and so I bought one that's already been properly sorted.
A caveat to the above, I do miss the rare times I'd take my old blob out around the Lake District in the quiet times and blow the cobwebs off, I really did feel more connected with that car than the hatch (particularly through twisty back roads).

The >07 (i.e. hatch onwards) are more compliant imo. If you want a "nice" every day car, then the hatch will suit. If you want a car that is rawer, more focused and pointy on the road..... wide track all the way!

What's steering feel like? I have a Spec C steering rack I'm my current WRX, what's the hatch STI rack like in comparison? I know the whole feel of the car will be different, but worth asking.

Not an answer more of a question I've had a couple of scoobies a classic and more recently a bug eye sti and am considering getting another one maybe a hatch do they suffer with the suspension knock that the new age imprezas had?

The steering in the GR hatch is poor imo, it's too light at low speed and lacking in feedback.
It is much improved in the MY2011 GV cars by virtue of the quick rack and revised suspension but could still do with some work.
There is night and day between the steering in my S202 and the Cosworth.

I've driven a number of these hatches (on road and track) and the steering certainly isn't "poor". Yes, it lacks the feel you get from previous versions, but that just makes it different.
When I actually took a hatch out (many years ago) for the first time, based upon the internet chatter, I was expecting it to be a proper piece of ****. Within 5 mins I remember saying, "these ****ers are talking out of their *****!".
Yeah it's slightly softer, but it still drives great and has very high grip levels.The older scoobs are much more agricultural. Since the Hawkeye, they have become softer and slightly less focused. I haven't driven the latest Saloon, so don't know if they have given it back some edge.

If you wind it up the car communicates decent feedback but it lacks the bite that makes some of the other models so entertaining.
I found the steering on the Spec C hatch to be good, it is also much better on the 2011 hatches and saloons.
The new car seems like much of an improvement, it has a good weight to it though I haven't pushed one hard so can't comment further than that.
