Do you own turbo or none turbo?
Was just wondering how many people on this site own an Impreza turbo?
As i've seen quite a few people own none turbo's. Nothing wrong with that, but just wondered whats the ratio of people that own turbo's and none turbo's

The NA Imprezas are surprisingly tunable. There's a good reason why they've never been sold pushing 200bhp.
Both the WRX and NA are detuned as to not embarrass/rival the flagship Impreza. Which they easily do when tuned to the same output.

300bhp is possible from a 2.5 N/A with full torque nearly available at 2k.
Biggest obstacle is some of the biggest hurdles need fabrication.
Just as the Newage WRX use a precat to tame boost the N/A's have headers and inlet manifold designed purely to limit high end power whilst boosting low down performance.
The big costs will be in forged pistons, standalone ECU, cams and porting on the heads etc.
Though many claim the procedure will be pointless and an unnecessary expense, pit a 300bhp N/A Impreza against a Forced Induction 265bhp Newage.
Obviously lightweight pulleys, aircon removal (if applicable) will free up 20hp at the wheels to really be a real world terror.
You'll still get 40mpg on a long run too so the mods will pay for themselves within 10 years!

What you have to take on board is that the N/A doesn't need massively tuning it is massively detuned.

Hi
I have a Hawkeye 2.0 R Sport - 160 bhp as standard and my mrs has a MY2000 Sport Special in Kashmir Yellow.
I've been told that the JDM R Sport had 190 bhp as standard - 30 bhp increase from a different ECU.
I love them both - for different reasons.
Andy.

Not many people have tuned N/A Imprezas to levels around 250bhp, I expect as it's a budget version most owners can't afford serious mods or if they can there are 2, 3 or more Scoobs of the same year with better specs, others probably don't know just how tunable their EJ engine is. It'll be interesting to see if many BRZ's get to 250-300 without forced induction being the top of the range as it stands.
Another N/A doing a 13.8, I suspect most Newage STI's do the 1/4 mile in around 14.0
Hmm, could be the base of a nice project: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-SUBAR...item2597f7989a

I was a non turbo owner up until March this year, but I'm now a turbo owner again. I've owned two turbos & two non turbos and can honestly say that I've enjoyed every single one of them. I've sold my classic non turbo to my sister

And how much do you think it costs to get a non turbo impreza up to STI performance levels ????
It's a completely pointless process.

TBH I've done something similar but not quite so largely scaled with a Ford Escort RS200 4X4 in the 90's. Re-boring to 2.1 added 15bhp right off the bat, cams, decat, chipped it, air filter, exhaust, fuel pressure regulator etc etc etc. It would wipe the floor with UK spec Imprezas. For me that's fun. It surprised a few dyno owners lol. Max power magazine were running a 300bhp N/A RS2000 at the time too. It was hot pink if memory serves me right.
Sure it may cost if you don't have a budget but just the gratification from surprising folks will be well worth it. Sometimes it isn't about easy numbers.
Why do I climb Ben Nevis each year to get a good view when there's a ski lift on a near by mountain?

It'd be interesting to see a thread dedicated to tuned N/A's to see what power they are putting out.
I've read about several N/A USA Imps pushing out around 250-300BHP but I've not found many projects that have taken power to a useful, lag free and fun 220-250ish.
