Best engine oil for tuned Sti?
Hi guys im currently running a modified UK 2004 Sti with around 340 - 350 bhp on standard internals.
Whats is the best oil to use for maximum protection during the winter months? Bearing in mind this car is well over standard power. I dont drive the car hard, just a bit of spirited driving now and then.. Cheers |
I've used Silkolene pro 10/50 for at least the last 4 years in my 2003sti, running fine with 300hp.

Personal choice but the nicest oil I have found is the Motul 300 15/50w :)

Either of those are proper top end oils, Millers CFS, Gulf Competition and Redline are worth considering as well.
Cheers Tim |
I run with 15/50 in the summer and 5/40 in the winter, have been using silkolene but trying gulf at the mo

I sory for hijacking your thread mate but i have the same dilema, i going to need a service after fully forged my 2.5 (just over a 1000 miles now) but i dont know what oil to use now, i used to use Millers CFS 10/60 before on my 2L but now i have mocal 10 row oil cooler too so im not realy sure if i keep the same or change it.
I am sorry for hijacking your thread mate |
It had been serviced with Silkoline ProS 10w/50 high performance Ester Synthetic oil aound 5000 miles ago.
I have read that this grade of oil should only be used if the engine sees very high temperatures and gets driven hard. Should i stick to this grade of oil or a top of the range 10w-40 for the winter? |

I'm using "Gulf Competition" 10W - 40 in 350 BHP 2.1 Stroker as recommended by Tim AKA Oilman.

Go for one of the following, a fully synthetic (give the car a few k more miles though to run in, so run a 10w40 semi for a while) a 5w40, 10w40 or 10w50, those will do you quite happily :D
Tony:) I had the engine fully forged and was told to drain the oil and change the filter after 50miles, then use the same grade oil ( mineral oil 10/40) for a 1200 miles then change to Millers 10/60, i am nearly reaching 1200 miles but now things started to confuse me after reading about the oils , i just want to use good stuff that will not harm the engine. so i think im going to choose 10/50 Millers is that a good oil to have on the new engine? I am sorry about this silly questions im just confused:freak3: |
10w60 is too thick, you still need a running in oil so go semi synthetic for another couple of k, then go for the best oil you can put in there, a 5w40 is good ;)
