wax and alloy wheels

do i have to buy genuine rim wax or can i just use other car wax such as auto glym or turtle wax etc

tubbytommy 13 July 2011 08:51 PM

i use autoglym on mine as i figure they are only painted anyway,

Think specialist wheel wax is a bit stronger than your normal wax and last's better under the conditions the wheels go through.

I use collonite on my wheels and car, on the car lasts for 4 months and wheels probably a month.

poorboys wheel sealant

It's more to do with the heat they're exposed to ;)

Jetseal 109 is the dogs ;)

THIS.

Honestly mate, it is brilliant stuff for a small outlay. Smells lovely too when applying and your wheels are soooooooo smoooove(sic) afterwards :luvlove:

I use it on my Luftpanzarwagen. :notworthy

As already mentioned car wax won't work well on alloys due to the heat, need wheel wax

powerwrx 13 July 2011 09:03 PM

wheres cheapest place for any of the above...not sure if i can bring myself to part with £15-£20 for some wax lol

I wouldn't bother waxing your wheels then mate. If it's cheap crap you want, not much point in getting anything :D

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wheel-Sealant-...item1c1735ee03 - that's a bargain actually, I paid more without the applicator pad and microfibre buffing towel. :thumb:

Another :thumb: for Poorboys, I get mine from polished bliss here http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...l-sealant.html

Yes I've tried normal car wax on my wheels too, made no difference to keeping them cleaner longer. They looked good for a couple of days but the paint used is not shiny to begin with. I use my car wax on my exhaust some times which does help oddly as that gets extremely hot :wonder: or may be it's just not exposed to as much muck as wheels are such as brake dust etc but it's still nice and shiny even after a month, apart from the very tip which will get a bit caked with exhaust fumes.

I'll have to look at these other recommended wheel waxes. Does Halfords sell any or are they only available online?
