No wonder wheel nuts can't be removed by us mere mortals with our wheelbraces.:mad:

There is a torque limiting bar that can used with impact wrenches. Usually coloured to denote the torque rating. Used to have a set, god knows where they are now.

I just use the impact wrench to zip the nut up hand tight, then tighten it fully with the torque wrench.

although a garage place told me the ones that are difficult to remove are usually those applied by over zealous home users frightened their wheels might jump off at the first bump..

I saw him at the NEC this month at the Autosport show. He looked like a tramp. Must of had a weeks worth of face stubble and hair all over the place.

I knew an Ed China who was in the news years ago with his roadworthy Sofa Bed. Is this the same bloke - very tall chap, must be in his fifties now??

I like Edd. He comes across as a decent man. He uses his nutty automotive creations for charity work, etc.

He's got some kind of high qualification/s in engineering, I think. He seems to do things on cars the 'right way'/has all the kit. etc. I expect, as Ali said, he just tightened the nuts quickly but not fully with the windy gun. Then finished with a TW (that wasn't filmed). He doesn't strike me as being remotely cowboyish - on the contrary, his manner of doing things correctly can make him look a bit anal to some of us more lazy slackers. :D

A lot better than his Mockney jaberwockey side-kick.

He made a meal of doing the clutch change on the newage wrx. only took the mechanic that did mine an hour and a half:D

Perhaps he was unaware of the 'specialists in the know' shortcuts?

I've seen Edd driving some of his creations and they look great :) What he does on wheeler dealers is scripted for TV and he knows what he's doing.

I really like the programme, some good tips, even dont mind Mike Brewer!

Edd China is ok though, you'd think that they'd give him a wheeler dealer t-shirt etc instead of him oiling up his own gear, doesn't look too good IMO but that's my only criticism.

But that was when they had to turn around a motor for <=£1k total spend, and he got unlucky with the garage being far too hot, and it dulled the lacquer through drying too quickly (he is human after all ;)). He didn't have the budget to get it done at a paintshop/spend more on it.

But yeah, that was defo his worst hour, regardless.

He made fatal schoolboy type mistakes that a "pro" should know better.

You cannot match silver from an aerosol can. Especially when the resprayed panel is adjacent to panels that have had 25+yrs worth of UV light to fade the pigment.

Secondly, metallic pigment dispersal from an aerosol can is different to that of a spray gun. This gives a differing "flip" under differing light angles.

The dull finish is more likely from the orange peal and trying to polish it before it had properly hardened, back then it was probably cellulose based paint, which being softer is prone to suffering from this.

True and that was cringe-worthy but he wasn't happy and rightly so. I wouldn't be happy with a finish like that.

Ed China does actually know what he's doing when it comes to mechanical bit's and bobs. He is not however a painter....... That much is evident even with a spray can :lol1:

As others have stated he is a good mechanic and does things with best practice in mind. The only problem is Mike 'champagne Charlie on lemonade money' Brewer' :lol: and in fairness I've only just recently changed my mind on Ed.

Agreed - all pertinent points. You're right, the pro in him should have done a better job.

Perhaps his heart wasn't in it - it was a feckin 1.6 Laser after all! :D

Fully agree. He comes across as a decent, genuine and down to earth bloke. He doesn't preen or posture for the cameras and seems to be able to put his hand to most things mechanical.
