Whoops.....

Reading this made my day :D

I don't care too much for Catholicism, not for the basic beliefs but for all the pomp and ceremony. And this includes the pope.

But of course there is a serious point in that their stance on condoms is probably responsible for a lot of third world deaths and misery, often aids related.

My apologies to any catholics reading this.

Religion - FO apologises over "condoms" document

Perhaps a tounge-in-cheek attempt at a 'humourous' document and not the best judgement. Interesting to see how the Catholic church reacts to this given the recent scandals about child abuse cover-ups and their head-in-the-sand approach to abortion and condoms.

Like a lot of religions not good at taking on new ideas and getting with the times to actually help people.

I have added you to my ignore list so cannot see the thread now so it doesn't exist;)

Not a very snappy title David, i missed it completely - i have The Sun-itis and unless the title is obviously inflamitory then i just skip over it;) 'Gotcha' is my level.

Very stupid thing for a foreign office official to write in an official document. The whole matter is of extreme embarrassment to the Government and to the Catholic Church of course.

It is amusing in the right context but not the sort of thing to be saying in diplomatic statements.

And what disciplinary measure have been taken against those who perpetrated this embarrassment to the government, on government time?

None, I'll bet............

richie001 25 April 2010 12:03 PM

Someone in the FO with to much time on they hands, sack now and save the tax pay some money.

Leslie 25 April 2010 12:07 PM

Actually I bet the Pope had a chuckle about it too!

Verbal and written warning plus being moved to other duties according to the report.

I know you won't see this Paul but title was in foreign office understatement language but possibly a bit too suble for you :D

Next time it will be "Pope tells FO to FO". :p

Oh FFS, it was someone blowing off a bit of steam, perhaps the Catholic church needs a wake up call, hundreds, thousands of years as a massively powerful, massively rich and huge organisation who have dictated a way of living to millions of people, a way of living that is out of tune and just wrong for todays society, whilst lining their own pockets and behind closed doors committing grave sexual crimes, as usual with religion because it's "old" we all have to treat it with reverence, come on, it was invented by men a long time ago, men less enlightened than we are now, alot has happened since then.

I am sure if the almighty does exist and created everything then he would have more of a sense of humour than the average po faced religous leader, after all, look at some of the creations he is supposedly responsible for, Proboscis Monkeys, Sea Slugs and some of the posters on here.

I suspect its the Foreign Office getting in a tizzy, doubt the Catholics even noticed, too busy eyeing the young poppets on the front row of the choir, ding dong.....

Leslie 26 April 2010 10:57 AM

I don't really know Jacko, but was it the Vatican which did all the complaining, or was it the Press making capital by hopping it all up when it was leaked? I thought the Vatican did not want to make a big fuss about it.

As I said, I bet they had a quiet chuckle too!
