This BMW is something special.

Kudos for BMW having the balls to make this car. Light, powerful and faster than any unsuspecting member of the public would imagine. Awesome car and I would like one very much so. Could be a tad nicer to the eye though.

The 135i Coupe. 306hp. RWD. Light weight.

It's well specced in many areas, but 'light' is not a word I would use. It's over 1.5 tons!

VoteConservative! 15 July 2007 10:09 PM

I thought it was like 1300-1400kg!

Cars are getting too heavy these days. I hear the new M3 is like nearly 1700kg!

hades 15 July 2007 10:20 PM

1300-1400kg is still hardly light even if that is what it weighs.

For this day and age I would say its light, especially for what is a luxury vehicle with all the trimmings.

Skittles 16 July 2007 11:08 AM

That is fairly light for this day and age. Roughly the weight of a 911 C2.

Nat 16 July 2007 06:17 PM

BMW weight figures are all more than the true figure as they weigh with full fluids, 3 pasengers, boot full of luguage etc so it will be less than their delclared weight.

Beef 16 July 2007 06:30 PM

I find that unlikely to be honest - many manufacturers now use the Euro standard for kerb weights which is something like a full tank, driver and some luggage. I forget the exact figures, but it's something like that.

Yep, spot on mate. Give or take a few bits here is the difference:
  • Audi (plus a few others) measure unladen: just the car, but not in a driveable form
  • BMW measure curb weight (c.75-100kgs more than unladen): Fluids + 90% full of fuel
  • The standard measure is EU1 (75kgs more than curb): Curb + 68kg driver + 7kg cargo.

skinters 16 July 2007 09:49 PM

I think most 'old' cars are measured kerb weight aren't they? So the BMW weight is like for like and for an EU1 car I should subtract about 75kg to compare?
I see the 135i is 1560kg kerb(!) What's the light bit? The air inside?
BMW 135i Coupe - Ultimatecarpage.com - Images, Specifications and Information

So my fully loaded old Saab 9k Aero is 1450kg kerb so I'll hopefully not be beaten by one in straight line....
It IS scary how much these new cars weigh though.

J4CKO 16 July 2007 10:04 PM

Or sell it for that matter Skinters !

Still waiting.

v8voodoo 16 July 2007 10:09 PM

I think it looks a bit top heavy.

Needs 2" out of the pillars to look like a coupe as opposed to the pope mobile.

Are they going to do a 3 door 135i and 135d..? The 135d would be novel on a motorway....

haha that's funny! You'll be the first to know :) It's running sweetly these days so parting would be hard.
Maybe I should get one of these new fangled BMW thingys - still waiting for them to get a bit quicker before I blow the 32k I have lying in the kitchen drawer for such events.

its growing on me

123D should be good :thumb:

Shark Man 18 July 2007 09:40 PM

Its going to be lardy...rather than bicker about how BMW measure curb weight compared to other manufacturers, why not just compare the same engined cars in the current line up:

130i (3door) = 1450kg
330i = 1555kg
530SE = 1605kg
Monaro VXR 6.0 = 1688kg (sorry couldn't resist :lol1: )

150kg between a 130 and a 530, thats the equivelent to two slender adult males....makes the 530 look light considering how much bigger it is.....Just apply the same logic to the 135 once the official weight is released....it will be heavier than a 130i anyway.

Janspeed 19 July 2007 12:14 AM

RC?

Damn, is it one of those kiddie cars they play with? :wonder:

skinters 19 July 2007 11:14 AM

front starting to look ok with the posh enhanced pictures. The back is still a disaster in my eyes - looks like a little stumpy thing with cheepo lights.

The Trooper 1815 19 July 2007 03:31 PM

And nudging the mid £30k's with a CD player and wind up windows:cuckoo: :D

VXR8 will piss all over it with 4 seats, massive spec with money to spare!

Spot on! Don't you think most Beemers look like the their front ends have sat in front of the fire too long and melted?:freak3:

From this angle is stunning but i'm just not convinced on the rear lights. They look too big i think. For 30k i'd rather have a 3 series coupe too...:)

The Trooper 1815 20 July 2007 04:05 PM

They are trying to replicate the same design process as the old Compact. Build to a budget, say it will be Golf/Focus prices then massively overprice it:cuckoo:

Far better specc'd cars for the same money with room, flair and no repmobile image. The 3 series was outselling the old Mondeo FFS, the new Dagenham Dave machine:D

Matteeboy 20 July 2007 04:43 PM

Hmm - A Focus ST, generally praised everywhere, weighs more than 1400kgs!

Looks very tasty to me - I'm sure BMW will sort the handling on it too.

AudiLover 22 July 2007 09:16 PM

Damn this car is ugly. :lol1:

Love is blind eh?

yes but does the typical BMW customer think along those lines....

Nat 23 July 2007 12:28 AM

Just thinking, remap and zorst and that'll be 400BHP, that would be pretty good i reckon :)

Matteeboy 23 July 2007 10:09 AM

So isn't 300bhp enough?!

Some people are never happy.
