What kind of real world costs am I looking at, it's not going to be a daily. Tucked up in garage until weekends off.

I suppose about the same as running and maintaining a 450bhp Impreza in tip top condition, by supercar standards almost peanuts (unless something serious breaks). You can't consider doing much work on the Porsche yourself though. Keeping the service schedule up to date via a dealer or specialist and keeping all receipts is vital to maintain its value. Unfortunately I was running both and one had to go. I think I sold the wrong one though!

My X50 cost me a fortune over 2 years, and it was low miles and incredibly well looked after.

Not exactly thrilling to drive either, after the initial '**** me it's fast'.

I've decided to stretch.... I'm now after a 997 Turbo with PDK.

I am no expert, but to have the PDK 997 Turbo I think you're going to have to go for a 997.2 which from memory is 2009 onward.

Pretty sure you're right.

I've only managed to find one under £60k so far, so in reality it may well be a first generation 9997 turbo (manual)

Just a couple more weeks until I can go shopping for one properly.

Why not buy the newest 4 wheel drive one you can get for £26k and spend the change on a supercharger

Not really what I had in mind.

I have got resale value to consider to, and I'd personally shy away from a modded one, even though there is a 997 TT with 720 BHP for sale at the moment..

Ever since 'Evo' magazine did a piece stating that they were a 'supercar bargain' even the 996 Turbos have shot up in price. But unlike the other 996 models the Turbo has got a detuned racing engine that is practically unburstable.

If you want it primarily as a weekend car, I wouldn't get a turbo - not as good to drive and doesn't sound as good as a C2S, Cayman R or Spyder.

Assuming your budget is now nearer 40k, I think you owe it to yourself to test drive all of these (including a turbo) before you part with your cash. Then it's simple - buy the one you like best.

That's exactly what I did a few years ago and bought the Spyder, a perfect weekend car and also a future classic if ever there was one!
