In some cases, I agree with you.....but look at MK1 Escorts. Big money being paid even with 80s Cosworth engines in them. Bolt on, poorly executed tat will always be bad, but expensive mods shouldn't hurt values of the non special edition cars.

I think that the fact we're all struggling to come up with something that's sub 10yrs old and under £30k speaks volumes.
The only cars I can think of are also either over 10yrs old already or way above £30k, only thing that springs to mind that I'd like to own of the current crop is the caged stripped out 2 seater Renault Megane and possibly the Cosworth 400.
Mazda 3 MPS just about makes it into the fast and cheap category, but hardly going to set the world on fire in the desirability stakes.
This is why I'm stuck with my 10yr old WRX Wagon PPP, and the Type R under cover in bits in the garage, there's just nothing out there that lights a fire under my **** and makes me want to go move some money around and go out and buy it that isn't already at least 10yrs old, and most of that isn't any better or faster than what I already have.
Sad times for petrol heads really, I'd sooner go buy a horse or a boat.

Was thinking the same - BRZ and GT86 have the "sports car" look and will be common enough on the road that the prices will bottom out - people will want/have them and then once a bit older will get nostalgic and want them again. By that time if they've been thrashed to death or have issues (like turning to rust) then good ones prices will sky rocket.
That's the car's i'm seeing just now that are climbing in value - hence why i bought another classic just now (it wasn't termed as a "classic" when i owned my first Impreza lol)

Yeah, the prices now are mental - crazy to think i sold my G reg Sapphire for £2,800 in 2000 all because it had a sticky front caliper and a bash in the rear passenger door.
