Default What would you do if you had £100,000 to spend/invest

A mate of mine just sold 1 of his houses and made £100,000 profit, and he asked me what i could do with it.

I couldnt suggest other than to put it back in property as i was in shock he asked me

What would you spend/invest in?

I'd invest most of it straight back into a bigger house

although i'd hold back about £20k, spend most of that on a nice Hawk STI and the rest on a holiday somewhere

I wouldn't put it in property at the moment, that's for sure.

I would ask him what sort of return he wants on it, and how what sort of risks he is willing to take with it.

Spend it on Booze and Hookers, then waste the rest of it

Do you think it would be a good idea for him to buy a plot, build a house and sell it??

Only if hes had experience of that before. Personally I wouldnt be risking £100k in the property market as an investment just yet.

- 45k into 3 x NS&I Index Linked Bonds issues (~5.5% tax free)
- 30k into Kaupthing at 6.5%
- 25k into Icesave 2year fixed at 6.7%

Batten down the hatches, and then in a few years look to buy some cheap asset/shares as things are starting to bottom out

that is prob the most sensible thing, but who here can honestly say if they had an extra £100,000 from effectively nowhere, they wouldnt spend some on some fun, as in a new car or something.

cause i certainly couldnt.

I'd borrow another £100k and go and buy a smallish property in the Seychelles suitable for 4 people. I would live there myself during the UK winter living on mostly fish and local beer. Then I would rent it out for the rest of the year which would more than pay the mortgage when I would be living in the UK.

Next

In case you hadn't guessed I hate British winters and am getting increasingly sick and tired of the loss of what used to be a decent place to live in with decent people.

This is what I'd do. Apart from hookers, charlie, booze and a 997 Turbo of course.
