As title, caught early Saturday morning on a road 4 lanes wide, but not classed as a dual carraige way.

About 8.30am no other traffic around, thought I'd just have a little blast

Sneaky copper sat in a vectra in a private yard, too late to do anything when I realised, as I was only car there

Told me I would automatically get a ban and a fine.

How do I stand insurance wise? as my license won't have any points but will have a code for a ban. Or is a ban a more serious offence in the insurers eyes?

The copper commented "thats a nice motor you got there, this is a 2.6 Litre Vectra and we can't keep up with your cars, because of the handling"

Really made my day. (not)

there is no clear cut answer

a lot of things have to be taken into consideration

age, location, speed, road conditions, type of car, etc etc

also depends on the magistrates on the day if it goes to court

depends if you plead guilty or not guilty

far too many variable to give an answer

I have however had a ban code (6 months for totting up 14 points) all obtained in a 3 month period, wasnt big or clever I soon found out

As far as I can remember, it doubled my insurance, but I was still only 19, and only ever third party, as I drove bikes or clapped out bangers, and never paid a great deal anyway

but then all that was a long time ago

Had a clean license for the past twelve years, thought I would appear in court to state my case.

Have been told not to bother as magistrates won't be bothered about this as they think of it as "you have probably broke the law before but just havn't been caught"

I got done for doing 64 in 30 in between built up areas but a 30 all the same, got 6 points and 250 ish fine, that was 6 years ago tho, go to court and blag em! i gave a genuine excuse, not an emergency just late. There was a car in front of me and im sure they were gonna pull that one, oh well nice and clean now.

Out of interest who told you not to bother?

I went to my case hearing, so I could add any mitigating circumstances

ie a Letter from my employers stating that I would lose my job if I lost my licence

Basically they said, well as I was expecting to get banned, and the points had all been accrued in a period of 3 months, I hadnt learnt, and would be banned

I would get a solicitor tho, or seek professional advice

I did for a different incident again many years ago, i didnt get off (and didnt expect to) but it certainly helped, and the outcome was much less severe than what could have been

It just happens to be a good freind of mine who is a policeman.

He did try to get the summons stopped by the offending officer
but the forms had already been submitted so it was too late.

I new I should have told my mate earlier, but I didn't tell him while late afternoon.

He even admitted to me that they see motorists as "easy targets"

I would still seek professional advice tho

No disrespect to the Police, but they dont prosecute, and they arent solicitors, or Magistrates

and can only 2nd guess the outcome

I have been told (the last time I was stopped for speeding, on a deserted M40 late at night) that I would be given a fixed penalty, as they should have really let the courts decide, but as it was quiet, they used their discretion
