Having got hold of a popcorn maker, wanting to know what they put on the popcorn when you go to the cinema (or would I be better off not knowing!).

I can make proper caramel and do the toffee stuff, but can only eat so much before feeling sick. Would like to know what they put on at the cinema (the sweet popcorn, not salted!) as it's still slightly sweet, but can eat a ton of the stuff

Cheers

Are you sure you want 'cinema style' popcorn.

Ask Avi what used to go on where he worked serving food at a well known cinema chain. []

Dunno how you make it but for sure they dont sprinkle caster sugar on it like someone else suggested. Butterkist do a Cinema Style Popcorn in a silver bag which is nice.

AFAIK most of the cinema chains just get huge prepacked bags which they slightly warm up. They dont usually make it on site.

Rik, that's why I was unsure I'd want to know...it's probably something horrible.

MarkO, I would, but at 3 quid a bag, it's cheaper to use the popcorn maker

Anyone know Avi's email? Or can point me to a thread he's posted on?

In the meantime, I guess I will be making lardy caramel stuff then

Anyone remember the microwave caramel popcorn all the supermarkets sold (pop-pop or similar)? You popped the corn then added a big block of toffee/caramel on top, zapped it a bit more then shook it which resulted it the best tasting hot popcorn known to man.

Then they stopped selling it - rumour has it due to so many numpties complaining of burnt mouths as the caramel was so hot. Now they only sell a sweet one and a savoury butter one which are both minging.

Melt a lump of butter, pour over popcorn, add sprinkle of sugar - eat.

If you want it the way they do in at the flicks, leave it somewhere damp for 3 days.

Thanks Av, will give it a go tomorrow night after renting a good vid

Think I'll throw in a few ticket stubs and chewing gum for that full cinema feel

All I need now then is to get someone to come round and kick us in the back of the chair all night

Thanks all

Yeah butter is good but try using icing sugar instead of normal granulated/caster sugar - tastes loads better!

I melt a lump of butter and add about the same quantity of demarera sugar, let the sugar melt into the butter then stir it into the popcorn. You don't need loads, just a light coating does it.
