I won't post again on this thread but leave you with this which is rather nice;

Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not for too long and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared miss me but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take and each must go alone It’s all a part of the Master’s plan a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go. Anon

David

Sorry to hear of you loss David

Re: Winehouse, she was one on her own in this day an age. Certainly retro. One thing that did annoy me with her, or the industry moreso was relating her to a song originally made by the Zutons, even if she did sing it better,it was never her song and she wrote far better stuff off her own bat.

Alcoholism takes no prisoners; two in my family dead from it.
I don't at all agree that she sang it better than the Zutons. Their original had a punchy, in-your-face delivery that perfectly fitted the antagonistic slightly bitter subject matter in the song's lyrics, her version had a non-descript wishy-washy feel and rhythm that sounded like up-tempo elevator music. She massacred that song, mainly because her vocal style just wasn't suited to harder/faster material. She was great at doing slower, more melancholic tracks, but it's obvious she could never have successfully made a switch to indie or grunge, for example.

Thoughts are with you, James and your family.

Poignant lyrics indeed.

I agree with your review, but think you're being a bit harsh blaming Amy Winehouse for it's mediocrity Recording and production were by the eminently average Mark Ronson

Frank and Back to Black were both exceptionally good records. But unfortunately, thanks to the unfathomable success of Valerie, the majority of the radio listening public will now never get to hear what Amy was truly capable of, because that's the only recording that makes it to the daytime playlists
