Default IR triggered blank firerer

I remember reading on a thread about house security a few years ago about a device that fires blanks and can be triggered by e.g. an infra red.

Does anyone know what it is called, I am struggling to find it.

Thanks.

Thanks, I am not entirely sure they were triggered by an IR or trip wire.

It would be good if they could be tripped by another method (IR, electrical signal from perimeter alarm etc.)

That would scare ****less an intruder!

Easy, just buy a cheap security light, remove light and connect terminal for 240 volt outlet. If you need a solenoid drive or relay just get the necessary item to trigger blank gun

Andy, that's a good idea, thanks!

Or even better use coarse salt in a cartridge, that would hurt!

In that case it depends which direction the gun points to.

sure, but what happens when you kill a cat/dog, or blow the toe of a Postman/Courier - or kid who is fetching a lost ball is blinded

I doubt a blank can kill as there is nothing in it surely?
A postman doesn't need access in your land, it's fenced up anyway.
Valid point about a dog/cat though.

Surely there has to be something in, to make the noise

I was under the impression that it was just a much smaller amount - so when fired very close the can cause injures

Wasn't Brandon Lee killed by a blank?

Blanks can and do kill. The cartridge contains wading and the crimped end will break away under the pressure of the explosive content of the round. Depending on range it will kill or miam

It is why the military fit blank firing adaptor to the end of their small arms and machine guns whilst still employing saftey zones around the muzzle end.

Pamp 21 - for those who know.
b. The following danger areas exist from the muzzle of the weapon:

(1) Rifle/LSW/Carbine, L115A3, MP7 and LMG — 1 metre forward and 1 metre in the vertical and horizontal plane.

(2) 12.7mm HMG fitted with the L9A1 BFB — 30 metres forward and 2 metres in the vertical and horizontal plane.

(3) All other weapons — 30 metres.

(4) If the general public are present the distance is 30 metres for all weapons.

Many years ago a mate of mine fired a 76mm blank at a german bus shelter, it was fewked!

Not to mention the fact that carrying of even an imitation firearm in this country is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, without the right license.

8mm blanks have the gun powder and a plastic bung at the end , they do release a flame .
Salt cartridges are also illegal iirc unless you are farmer piles .

I am not talking about this country.
If the blank is aimed at the sky there is no issue then.

8mm blanks are totally different from the military type stuff where they just crimp the ends. The pistol I have has a solid barrel so nothing comes out of it. Totally safe other than the hot casings it ejects

I think people are getting carried away with the deadly blanks thing. The mine type blank firer uses a shotgun cartridge blank. He's not about to put military 76mm blanks in a mine, or any other type of blank.

The shotgun ones are perfectly safe as I've been in the firing line on more than one occasion, you might get a disc of card come at you.

I used to use one exactly as in the link on my garage. Was quite a shock at 7am when you forgot about it, the blast would set my car alarm off too.

I would love to hear you speaking to the judge when the ****** who is trying to disable your "system" gets blinded by a bit of shotgun blank wadding.

Yep a criminal but still a victim, the joys of British Justice.

There is no wadding in there?! Wadding is to take the force of the blast onto the pellets and help the propulsion of said pellets in live shells. These are not like that.

Without wadding and resistance there is no blast in a progressive burning powder. Without resistance it doesn't explode it just burns, so if it goes bang there is resistance and the blast is forcefully expelled somewhere (muzzle or side exit) and is potentially dangerous. In the UK the employment of any such device for house security is illegal.

The wadding in a live shotgun shell is longer than the proper blanks I've used. AFAIK the blanks just have a piece of card in the end.
