It has to be the Spitfire.

Luftwaffe destroyer and liberator of Britain.

Me thinks we need something similar now.

Blackbird all the way, not just because it's the fastest but the history and the engineering that went into producing it.
Lotta strings had to be pulled for it to be made possible.

Plenty of really great planes - Ligntning, Vulcan, Blackbird, U2 etc but the ones that get my vote never really got off the ground -

TSR2

XB70 Valkyrie

They don't make them like they used to.

This plane was hit by a German fighter plane and still managed to get "Home" safely

I like the really modern stuff but the F14, F15, F16 and Tornado are still some of my favourites.

Just a heads-up for those that are interested..

A few planes are doing the yearly exercise at RAF FAIRFORD in South gloucestshire

Currently I've seen 2 different B-52's... And......2 different B2 stealth's: notworthy. Although 3 are actually present..

I've also heard rumours of at least 1 U-2 although I've not actually seen it

Also a couple of C-130's

They are flying in and out so you may get lucky.. Or unlucky

I think it's on till around the end of the month

So if you like your planes get down to FAIRFORD and do a bit of spotting

Good luck

Another vote for Duxford. I've been a few times and last year went to their air show, well worth the money. The Typhoon is just awe inspiring!

Not an aeroplane of course but I always like watching the Apache helicopters, their manoeuvres seem to defy physics.

An Apache flew incredibly low over the beach while I was surfing last year; it hugged the cliffs and did some incredibly tight turns; bloody loud too!

Apparently firing bursts have to be seriously restricted on the A10 - the gun it so powerful that it dramatically slows the plane and can cause it to stall. Awesome!
