Why's everyone so sure that Clarkson will continue? You've got to ask, what was his motivation for reporting himself to the powers that be? He's 55 this year and has more than enough money to retire on, I wouldn't be surprised if he calls it a day and enjoys an early retirement.
As for Top Gear, if the bbc have any sense they'll let it die. They won't be able to match the success they had in the Clarkson years just by replacing it and rehashing it as a 'proper car show' is a daft idea because no body watches 'proper car shoes' in the grand scheme of things (just look at 5th gear).

Do I think he will be enjoying an early retirement, no I don't.
Do I start to wonder that this whole thing has been somehow manufactured to get him away from the BBC, and a relationship that has become increasingly strained over the last few years, and create some sort of media frenzie and bidding war, quite possibly.

Probably. And he's already got good links with Murdoch so a switch should've been easy and lucrative. But he didn't go.
Truth is, Clarkson needed the BBC as much as the BBC needed him.
The BBC is one of the very few broadcasters that can commission a series that can slag off the products of the industry with the second biggest TV advertising budget in the world and not give a toss about what those motor industry advertisers think.
If a BBC TG3 isn't going to be the same without Clarkson, then in '6th Gear', 'DSG Dave' or 'Loaded: Hatch' or whatever he chooses to call his next TV incarnation, Clarkson isn't going to be the same without the BBC.

Clarkson and sidekicks will be fine doing exactly the same show for another channel
its the beeb who lose 50 million and no one is going to properly replace him. lol

Not sure how JC would cope with being told that he could not trash the latest BMW, because of their advertising spend

Which is why any online platform, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc would be a good home for him. No advertisers to worry about.

being on the BBC primetime gave him massive exposure and credibility too
may as well start his own youtube channel

Or may be he'll start posting on Scoobynet and Pistonheads type places, to be close to his die hard fans, and get exposure that way.

Within a few hours of making his JC sacking announcement, Lord Tony Hall received a death threat on 25th March. Must be some utterly devoted JC worshipper with a screw or two loose in his upper storey.

This article written by Chris Harris is pretty much spot on in my book, especially the comments about the show trying to reach a wider audience and not just all be about cars (which some on here moaned about) and why it didn't harm HIGNFY but would top gear.

Were they on the clock or off the clock??
If off the clock then is this not a personal matter rather than a company matter? If they were on the clock then do the BBC allow workers to be getting lashed on company time or should everyone who was drinking when it happened not also be fired for misconduct?
