Yeah, my work colleague mentioned this on Thursday.

He's certainly a petrolhead (obviously!) and has a compelling personality. He's quite the nut.

If JC is to be replaced then surely the best bet is Chris Harris.

Doubt it, having read his autobiography I can't see him being interested in the Top Gear job in the slightest.

thing is Guy doesn't really like media attention, and whoever the BBC choose to take over from Clarkson will get a lot of media attention. Also get the impression Guy only makes program's that he wants to make.

As for Top Gear, if the bbc have any sense they'll let it die. They won't be able to match the success they had in the Clarkson years just by replacing it and rehashing it as a 'proper car show' is a daft idea because no body watches 'proper car shoes' in the grand scheme of things (just look at 5th gear).
What did Jezza do the night he was 'sacked', sloped off to a party. What did he do the following day, he was seen meeting James May and Andy Wilman, the later of which apparently had a meeting with ITV execs.
Do I think he will be enjoying an early retirement, no I don't.
Do I start to wonder that this whole thing has been somehow manufactured to get him away from the BBC, and a relationship that has become increasingly strained over the last few years, and create some sort of media frenzie and bidding war, quite possibly.

Probably. And he's already got good links with Murdoch so a switch should've been easy and lucrative. But he didn't go.

Truth is, Clarkson needed the BBC as much as the BBC needed him.

The BBC is one of the very few broadcasters that can commission a series that can slag off the products of the industry with the second biggest TV advertising budget in the world and not give a toss about what those motor industry advertisers think.

If a BBC TG3 isn't going to be the same without Clarkson, then in '6th Gear', 'DSG Dave' or 'Loaded: Hatch' or whatever he chooses to call his next TV incarnation, Clarkson isn't going to be the same without the BBC.

Yes very true, and has recently been brought into stark focus by the HSBC / Telegraph debacle

Not sure how JC would cope with being told that he could not trash the latest BMW, because of their advertising spend

Which is why any online platform, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc would be a good home for him. No advertisers to worry about.

sure - but as I said, I doubt JC would be entirely happy swimming in the backwaters of the televisual entertainment pool

being on the BBC primetime gave him massive exposure and credibility too

may as well start his own youtube channel

Or may be he'll start posting on Scoobynet and Pistonheads type places, to be close to his die hard fans, and get exposure that way.

Within a few hours of making his JC sacking announcement, Lord Tony Hall received a death threat on 25th March. Must be some utterly devoted JC worshipper with a screw or two loose in his upper storey.

This article written by Chris Harris is pretty much spot on in my book, especially the comments about the show trying to reach a wider audience and not just all be about cars (which some on here moaned about) and why it didn't harm HIGNFY but would top gear.

Still not sure how the BBC can justify sacking Clarkson for punching someone but covered up Jimmy Savile being a kiddie-fiddler...

They haven't 'sacked' him.
In fact, they are now grovelling and trying to get him to do the live shows so they don't have to fork out another 10 mill in ticket refunds.

Were they on the clock or off the clock??

If off the clock then is this not a personal matter rather than a company matter? If they were on the clock then do the BBC allow workers to be getting lashed on company time or should everyone who was drinking when it happened not also be fired for misconduct?

I always thought they did allow them to get pissed while on the clock. You often see fictional shows, showing a character and a BBC boss in expensive restaurants, having luxurious lunches and lots to drink. The basis for these scenes must have come from somewhere.

Perhaps Jeremy Clarkson has already been posting here on SN for a long time, right under our noses. My money is on PS Lewis.

Money lost: Clarkson never liked Blair, nor Labour.
