Default Kitchen Floor Tiles....... Help me decide!!

I am having a new kitchen, white gloss slab style with black sparkly quartz worktop but I can't decide on floor tiles. Last month I was initially thinking black floor tiles to match the black worktop, but now I'm having second thoughts and thinking of a more polished limestone/white/beige coloured floor tile.

The lighting in the room will not be an issue as it's got big patio doors at one end and a huge window at the other. Also I am not considering wooden flooring.

Black floor tiles:

White floor tiles:

Opinions??

I wouldn't go limestone or beige. I think you have three options

1) White (or off white)

2) Black

3) A nice grey/graphite type colour.

Btw, is your kitchen going to have handles?

FWIW our kitchen is a bit like the black picture 4, with gloss white units, white tiles and steel grey work top and dark grey floors. Particularly we we told that with two kids, black worktops will show up the dirt everywhere (friends have this and it does). Also in a well used kitchen (ours is a kitchen diner leading to the garden) the kids are constantly in and out, so bring in dirt etc. On the grey floor dirt is less obvious than black. Not sure if you have kids, but I am glad we were steered away from black.

I'd go with the black or a dark grey. Won't show the dirt as much as white or cream and as you'll have a grey or black grout (the bit that's hard to clean) this will be even better.

Actually for what it's worth I don't think an all white gloss kitchen looks nice with black work surface. Black and white is quite a cold and stark look, and if I may say without offending anybody, boring.

If you have your heart set on white gloss then a grey work surface and grey floors is something I've seen work well.

imho of course!

Black. Too much white otherwise looks a bit lab like.

Not really a fan of the glossy kitchens, think it's a passing fad that will see folk replacing their kitchens in 5 years time, but I think the solid wood worktops go quite well with them.

We kept with something modern but that will hopefully stand the test of time - solid oak shaker cabinets, black granite worktops, and a slate tiled floor. Pleased with it so far. Agree the black tops show the dirt but with granite a quick wipe over with a soapy cloth, dry it, and it's back to shiney.

I decided on the gloss white slab design because it's what a personally like the best, plus it looks modern and contemperory. I did consider a matt shaker style like what my parents have but when I looked at all the kitchen showrooms I did like the white gloss slab better.

A wooden worktop does look good, I agree, but it is not hard wearing at all and requires a lot of matienance and work to keep looking good, plus the risk of staining it is too high.

My girlfriend has chosen the black quartz worktop with these silver and gold sparkly flakes in it which really looks good in the light but I think if the worktop was my choice I probably wouldn't choose black either, but hey, she's gotta have some input

We are having an island with bright blue bar stools and a bright blue kettle and toaster and other blue features to inject some colour into the kitchen area which we think will look good.

@Dingle we are having steel handles as we're not keen on the integrated handless look.

I wouldn't go with black floor, especially glossy black to match the worktops as you will definitely see dirt and water marks and therefore requires quite a bit more effort to keep clean. The only consolation with glossy black floor is that in a well lit room, it will act like a mirror, perfect for up skirt viewing! I'd go with limestone/travetine floor as a dark floor will make the kitchen seem smaller.

Your choice of course but if you go into any high end kitchen retailer you will find all the modern kitchens have an integrated handle design.

But of course its what you prefer

I agree, I've looked on the net and most of these high end German kitchens all have the integrated design which is starting to become more common, but they are more expensive and I do have a set budget which I'm finding difficult to stick to as it is

Anyway, so far it seems that the black floor tile is more favourable going by these comments. Probably something like picture 3.

Sorry to bang on about it but Ikea do a handleless design, it's their most expensive range but might be within your budget? Or you may not like Ikea stuff.

Anyway, I'm putting that kitchen into a refurb project I'm doing within the next few weeks. If you have time yet to wait I can post some pics when done if you want.

Right, I'll shut up about handles now!

I have time Dingle, but half the battle is with my girlfriend you see. If it was her choice she'd have a traditional country style kitchen so I've done quite well getting the white gloss! It won't be until 2-3 months anyway.

Hardly goes with the contemporary design does it?

Yeah I'm not keen on those big flagstones. They would suit a traditional country kitchen perfectly though.

We have black granite worktops with blue quartz and black floor tiles with blue sparkles and it looks superb, really has the "wow" factor with all who see it. Floor is easy to keep clean and the sparkly bits mean you dont see every little crumb that has dropped either.

One thing if your having granite or quartz is spend some time looking at good lighting as this will really bring the surface to life.

Chip that looks nice. We've decided on black quartz worktop but with silver sparkly flakes so very similar to what you've linked. Any chance of a picture of your kitchen so I can see your black floor tiles? Also, are your units white gloss?

Only trouble is, quartz floor tiles is going to be well out of my budget It'll still give me an idea though to see!

Actually... those prices don't look too bad, surprisingly...

I love the traditional marble and granite.... Sparkly stuff is a "Essex nightclub" for me..

How much is the kitchen costing ?

I prefer 'flat' quartz/composite stone. I think even granite and marble are too Essex nightclub.

Just shows how different we all are I suppose

Imho the trick is to use a very large tile and a very small grout line ie 2mm max. In this way hopefully the floor should look like one big 'sheet' of material rather than individual tiles. It gives that seamless flow which I think looks nice.

Jeez, I'm beginning to sound a tad camp

I would only consider 600x600 or 600x300 for floor tiles anyway. Also matching grout too, especially if I went for white tiles.

What curtains and interior accessories would go best Ding?
