Default No side lights front and rear

I thought I'd finished off my STI V3 today but it seems that I have no side lights front and rear, everything else works fine. The car's been sat in the garage after being imported from Japan 7 years ago and has been a bit of a project over the last couple of months.
I've checked fuses which are all fine although I can't find which fuse is for the the side lights due to it all being in Japanese When I turn the stalk on the steering column I can hear the relay click but no side lights

Is there another fuse box, in line fuse that I'm missing or anything else I could check??

Thanks in advance

Yep, iginition on and the lights behind the dash also lit too. I hear a relay click above the fuse board but does anyonre know if this is for the dash backing lights, side lights or for both??

Wondering if theres a relay somewhere not working???

It's doubtful that the sidelights are relayed, that s only usually done for heavy currents or VERY light duty switches.

You need to post and ask someone with a car approx the same age for which fuse. I'd look, but my Scoob is 1000 miles away.

Lol, no probs. The relay that I'm on about clicking is the one related to the rear tail lights as is stamped next to it, I've been through everything I can think of, even the number plate lights are lit

I'm wondering now if could even be the switch on the stalk??

If you look at the "power routing" and "tail and illumination" pages in here, it'll give you some idea of what's what.......

Subaru have, AFAIK, always included a relay in this circuit........

The inner part of the parking light switch is missing so dosn't work but I've tried bridging it with a wire and still the same, dash lights work and I presume number plate light too but obviously cant see them but nothing else.

The car has just come back from the body shop and I know they removed the rear bumper, is there an earth around there that might not have been put back on??

Thanks for all the replys, much appreciated

That wouldn't stop the fronts working as they have a separate earth....

My mate is popping in this afternoon to have a look, he's a lot better than me on electrics so hope he has more luck than I've had so far.

I think a 12V supply tapped in to the out going side maybe a good start to elliminate a few things and go from there, at least then we can trace back or go forward and find out whats wrong.

I'll let you all know what we find out later

Looks like my mate isn't going to be able to make it up today to have a look at it but what I have discovered is that I've no power showing going to fuse no5 for the side lights so at least that would rule out everthing after that.
I'm thinking it could be a down to the switch on the indicator stalk

Either that, or the relay, if there is one.

Traced the relay, 3 in line above the fuse box second 1 in and it's clicking, I've swapped it with the other 2 and the same result

Do you have a circuit tester? If so, use it to check if you are getting power to, and out of, the relay.

Terminals 30 and 87, respectively.

Yes I have, I've found I have no power to the side light fuse but the relay is clicking so on that basis I would of thought I'm getting power to the relay but seeing that I had swapped the relay with identical ones next to it and the same result then

I will check though, terminals 30 and 87?? Do I need to open the back of the fuse box to get to them???

If you have no power TO the s/l fuse, that's your problem.

It could be fed from ANOTHER fuse, or just be a poor connection somewhere.

If you pull the relay out, the pins are usually marked, 85, 86, 30 and 87.

85 opens/closes the relay.
86 goes to earth.
30 feeds power TO the relay
87 takes it to whatever.

But the fuse will/should be on feed to 30, so if there is no power to the fuse, the relay could click, but still not supply power.......a relay is nothing other than an electro-magnetic switch, using a low current between 85/86 to switch the heavier current from 30 to 87.

Have you checked ALL the fuses?? as the tail/illumination circuits are fed through a 20A fuse in the main fuse board under the bonnet and a 5A in the fuse board under the dash.

Are the bulbs all OK?? especially as you say you have number plate illumination. This is fed from the same wiring as the tail lights.

Brand new bulbs, checked all the fuses, been through everything I can think of, I'm sure there's a 10A in there not a 5A though

Just a quick update on what my mate has found tonight, he seems to think that the parking light switch is the cause of the problems, looks like I shorted out the switch gear too while playing auto electricians

At the moment we're not qiute sure why the internals were missing out the parking light switch to begin with so weather this is down to another fault I'll only know when I plug in the replacement.
