Default Wiring loom

Hi just a quick one. Just wanted to know whats involved by changing a wiring loom from a 2000 impreza into a 1996 impreza. Is it also expensive to get someone to do it for me thanks.

Basically I have a v3 engine and I want to upgrade to a v5 but in order to do that I need to change all wiring loom as all sensor clips are completely different. Just wondering if this is achievable or is it a big headache thanks

Unless you want to swap out the entire vehicle loom, you will have issues simply because the v3 ECU will not work with the V5 sensors/actuators, and the V5 ECU won't fit the V3 loom.

Realistically, the only way to do this easily is to go for an after-market ECU (Syvecs, Simtek2, AlcaTek, or others) so you have the flexibility to recalibrate the ECU to suit the different requirements. Idle control is the main isse as the V5 needs 4 control signals whereas the V3 has 2 (V1/2 and newage only have 1).

Then, the approach would be to take the V5 engine loom and transplant the V3 loom multiway connectors (2 by the battery and 1 at the rear) to it. Most signals will be OK, but differences in the ignition amplifier drive means some extra work or, easier, convert to newage coilpacks while you're at it). Any extra wires (2x idle, for example) can be run back as new cables and wired to the ECU.

The wiring work (if we did it, for example) is inexpensive (£100's) but the cost of a new ecu and mapping (£1000's) may mean you don't want to be doing this!
