Default 93 Impreza WRX power windows problem

The power windows don't work on my Impreza import. All fuses tested ok. I have downloaded a dozen wiring diagrams and they all have section 22 on power windows missing.

I know the loom heads towards the back of the car but I can't trace it all without removing interior including carpets.

I have searched everywhere for a mythical breaker with no joy.

Can someone please help.

Iain.

Do they ALL not work? If not, then it IS either a fuse, or the feed to the windows from the fuse.

I assume you removed the fuse and tested it properly, rather than just looked at it? Blade fuses are a b*gger for LOOKING fine but not being

If it's all not working except the driver's one, there's a switch that locks all the others out?

It is all the Windows that don't work. I did a continuity test on all the fuse and they all passed. Also there is no fuse labelled as power windows.

Apparently there is no fuse involved. A post on another site said that they are unfused and fed by a power breaker but it is nowhere to be found.

Have you taken the trim off which is under the steering wheel and just above the pedals?
I remember seeing 2 brown connectors attached to the inside of the trim when I was wiring in the AFR,when I unplugged them the windows wouldn't work.

Yes, I took off the trim under the steering wheel and the door trim all the way to the back of the car.

There are two connectors that come in from the drivers door beneath the fuse box. One is for Central Locking and one for the power windows.

The power windows connects to a connector with a bunch of cables that head off towards the back of the car without going anywhere near the fuse box.

I know it has to pickup power somewhere and that is probably the source of the problem but I can't work out where this supposed breaker is.

Breaker? AFAIK, there's no breakers on Scoobs, just fuses and relays.
a relay is simply a heavy-duty switch controlled by a much lighter current. Used so that the switch itself doesn't have to be massive and heavy-duty.

albob, thanks for the diagrams. They show a power window and sunroof breaker on page 2. There is no fuse it just wires directly into the power loom as suspected.

There was no option for a sunroof on this jap import but we have seen images of this board from the later models and can't find it anywhere.

It appears anyone with an early Scooby has a breaker but they must never trip because no one seems to comment on them.

Just my luck.

So there IS a circuit breaker? I suppose it's there to stop finger-trapping etc. Didn't know that.

I wonder where it is? And is it resettable?

Do you have a multimeter or a circuit tester? It ought to be possible to see if you have power at the door switch, then go backwards from that, if not?

I would check that you have power at the relay ( point 2 is the 'power' current and point 1 would be the 'switching' current

and note - the power window relay is supplied by fuse no18 in the fuse and relay box..

I will check the fuses again but the circuit diagram that has been posted is not for my model of car although it is probably similar.

I have used a multimeter and there is no power to the switch.

looks like the 'breaker' sits on the same bracket as the relay

(still using diagrams from a MY2000 tho'...!)

the breaker is item 85543 - the relay 85542

Looking at the circuit diagram, you have supply from the fusebox, via what appears to be a fairly thick black/white wire to the circuit breaker.

Find the circuit breaker and check that it's getting power.

The power then goes FROM the c/b via what looks like a white/green thick wire to the relay, again, find relay, check it's getting power.

From there it goes via a green/blue wire to pin No. 1 on the connector, from where it emerges as blue/yellow, again, check that power is getting to this point.

If all is well so far, suspect the switch, but if, as you say, no power is getting to the switch, your problem must lie between there and the power supply.

SOLVED.

Thanks guys, albob's diagram showed the breaker under the passenger seat and sure enough take out the seat and there it is.

The breaker had tripped, the wire to the breaker connector are corroded and broken so tomorrow I will reposition the breaker to an accessible point under the seat and solder the breaker onto the wires.

I can post pics if it is any use to anyone.

It depends what Model Year you have.
For UK cars built between 01/1993 and 06/1997 the circuit breaker is as shown (location A) in the above posted parts diagram under the passenger front seat.
Later models, the circuit breaker and relay are located Driver's side under the dash (location B) as also shown here..........

For JDM cars its 01/1993 - 09/1996 under seat
Then 10/1996 - 08/1997 as shown below

Then 09/1997 as wiring loom diagram above.
