Default cig lighter soldering iron

Hi just bought one of these 12v draper soldering irons that plugs into your car cig lighter, but its dawned on me that the ignition is going to have to be on for it to work. Is it safe to solder wires in a car that have power running through them while the ignition is on?

Should have got a gas one really. Which wires are you soldering? I can't see much problem if they aren't in use, not all of them will be energised at once.

What if they are live will it cause a fuse to blow or something if you try to solder another wire to it?

You'd need to check that the metal parts of the soldering iron are isolated from the car body and also live supply completely when it's in use to be certain.

I very much doubt that the bit is live when in use

But I do question whether it will blow the cig-lighter's inline fuse?

I dont see a problem as the soldering iron has an element which heats the tip so there is no electrical contact only the hot tip.
