Default Looking to buy a WRX or STi

I am looking to buy a WRX or STi. I have seen one on desmonds eastwoods site. It looks good but the price seems a bit high? Also what things do i need to be looking out for when buying a scooby as this will be my first (scooby virgin). I have a fair idea about cars and what to look for when buying but as a scooby is a bit more than a normal car.

thanks in advance.

ten years ago I used to believe that - a couple of Subarus, (2 impreza's 1 Legacy) later most on here will tell you it is a myth from a bygone era. Used to be scared to use the normal spanners I have in my garage on the car in-case the "special spanner detector" (SSD) system caused the car to immobilse itself and reported me to the MD at Subaru.

**** taking aside - look at them in the same way you would other cars. Check the service history, take a good long test drive in it, listen out for anything unusual by way or knocks and bangs, or squeeks and squeals, check the overall condition of the car matches the reported mileage, if there is 20,000 on the clock and the pedal rubbers, steering wheel, gear **** and drivers seat are worn away to nothing - walk on by.

Personally I would look for an unmolested and unmodified car. If you buy privately, let the bloke selling the car drive it - if he raggs the nuts of it while cold, or puts it to the red line in every gear, chances are you will buy someone elses problems. Oh and watch out for some of the big BHP claims - every impreza in NI is turning out at least 300 ponies.

Get to drive the car from cold, check for smoke from the exhaust at startup and when under load. Keep a couple of hundred quid in your back pocket, things do go wrong with them just like any other car. Put details here or on ScoobyIreland of any car you are thinking of buying, there is a fair chance someone will know something about its history.

Eastwood motors are a good place to buy from - this is my own buying experience from last year. http://www.scoobyireland.com/forum/g...od-motors.html

The subaru crowd are a friendly and helpful bunch, if you ask nicely, for beer money or a bit of super unleaded some may even offer to go with you to look at those on your shortlist.

When you get her bought, get the photos up.

Thanks for the advice. This is that car that I am going to look at next week (if it is still there)

If anyone has any history on the car then your assistance is greatly appreciated.

If you can, ignore the WRX and go straight for an STI.

And if you cant....try and ignore the WRX and go straight for an STI anyway. Most of the modifications you might consider will be to try and improve the car to STI level anyway

Went and looked at the car tonight and it is good condition. It has a blitz dump valve and xyz adjustable suspension? Brakes arent bad as the car has been sitting for a couple of weeks. There are not many stone chips on the body at all and the service history is up to date with all the stamps in the book. It said that the timing belt was carried out at 37k is this correct? Also can someone tell me what the average mileage is for a tank of petrol for normal driving not like miss daisy but average horsing with a big right foot?

Seen a nice scooby in carrick on the way home with bright yellow wheels sitting outside kfc on the Belfast road. If this is yours can you pm me so I can ask about scooby things.

Cheers
Steven

I think Ive seen the old owner over on RMS. Brian I think he's called ?

If it is the same person, he bought a new model STI.

But back to what I said before. Buy an STI.
